Installed rebuilt VP44 and reman FASS DPRP under warranty in Jan 2012. Been working great until two days ago. It takes 6 to 8 starting cycles to start after sitting overnight. Zero press in morning. After starting in the morning with a lot of white smoke at startup, the truck runs great all day with good press. I am guessing a bad check valve on FASS. Talked to FASS and they will send a NEW DPRP arriving Monday. Question will the hard start first thing hurt the VP44? Am I guessing right with the bad check. FASS told me to put an inline check after the tank but that is not the cure. Thanks Dodge 2002, 297,000 mi.

Sounds like air is getting ino fuel system.

The threads I have read stated no fuel pressuren when starting. Were you getting fuel pressure before hard start situation?

Not supposed to have pressure during cranking. You get the 1 second bump of the fuel pump to prime somewhat when you go key on, then nothing until the engine is running.

Try bumping the starter to cycle the 30 second priming next time (let it finish the priming before you start cranking).

I would have to agree with Missouri Mule on this, sounds like you have a leak that is letting the fuel bleed down.

There isn't necessarily going to be fuel under the truck. It only has to let air in to be hard starting. Look for damp areas around the fuel filter and the fittings on the VP44 and injector fittings. I agree with the others, you have a leak somewhere, probably around the new VP44.
