Bad Influence !!! GRIN

Holy Cow!!!!! :D :D Oo. :D

I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have gone this far with the truck, but you guys have been a bad influence and I couldn't help myself. :-laf

I got it on the road just in time for a 500 mile RT and I had NO idea how much fun this was going to be to drive! I can hit 32 PSI briefly (1200 EGT) up a hill with the valet switch off! (Briefly, because > 85 is frowned on by the hiway patrol ;) )

Tires break traction if I hit it too hard, catch and then cut loose again when the turbo sings. Oo. This is too much fun... .

and I thought my teenager was bad.

All this and 19. 5 combined MPG in a one ton 4x4!! :D

Questions. .

I have not tuned it yet, is this boost around normal for POD's, mild turbo (58mm) with stock air intake, PDR cam, and oversized exhaust? I also don't see much difference with the valet switch on or off. Should I back off the fuel screw a touch? It does leave a small cloud with not too much throttle. Idle haze is noticable, but not too bad when warmed up. Does that haze get better or worse if I advance the pump a little? I have not changed timing at all.

Thanks for the ideas and for corrupting me. :-laf

Wow

Sounds interesting. I am puuting a first gen into a Suburban and have considered PODs but I am curious how much haze you are making? Can you take a pic? Also I noticed the PDR cam and I am wondering how much it affected performance. Finally, why the stock air intake? It seems like with all that fuel you would have less smoke, more power, and lower EGT's with more air. Also what turbo are you running?

Did you turn the starwheel down? I bottomed mine out, when you hit the valet, it pulls HARD! Just like a shot of nitrous in the 68 camaro. ;) You should definitely update the intake, even a BHAF will help. I would bump the timing, it will help the haze. Glad you like your new toy! :D

Sounds great! I'm running PODs and with my fuel screw setting, I can peg my 35 psi gauge. I don't hold it there long, as I can also peg my pyro if I want. Still need to open up the exhaust end.

As to haze, I can leave a hippie's 76 Subaru full of smoke. But if the head of the State EPA was behind me in traffic, I can leave a stoplight with pretty fair acceleration, and not leave a trail.

"r & d" tuning results

I checked the starwheel and it was almost completely down. It is down now.

I backed off the fuel screw 1 turn to see what the result would be. (cheap unscientific R & D) :-laf

Up a hill unloaded, valet off = 24 PSI boost down from 32. EGT down too.

Hit the valet switch and get 30 PSI boost, you can hear the fuel hit the engine as well as feel it in the seat of the pants.

The truck is noticably slower off the line but not bad (it will still make tire smoke) and noticably less smokey off the line as well.

I think I will leave the fuel setting here until i can tow something and check EGTs. The goal is to have the fuel setting idiot proof with regard to EGTs with the valet off.

I will advance the timing as soon as I get more O2 for the torch to make the wrench fit. :)

BHAF will be next power mod after free tuning tweaks. My goal has been 300-320 HP. I gotta find a dyno.

Dude! You don't know what that is?

It's a switch on the dash to get your valet to bring you a beer! :-laf

Actually it's a switch to cut fuel for every day driving for guys with a lead foot! ;)

There was a thread w/ pics to the one I did, I'll see if I can find it.

Somebody else asked, so I posted pics.

Search for "new bosch injectors" by hotram03, pics are on the 2nd page.
