Myself, I love my Newfoundlands! I've grown up with them as show dogs, and when we were married we bought one for ourselves. They don't take alot to train properly, and are great with kids! We just had to put ours down at 13. 5 years. That was only because we didn't catch the Lime Disease until too late, if it wasn't for that he would still be with us, he still had the heart and mind, just not the legs anymore. As for the Texas heat, we picked up ours while stationed in Albq. , NM. As long as we kept up on the grooming he was fine, and Newfs do need alot of grooming.
