Best Brake Pads??

I run Performance Friction Carbon Metalic pads from AutoZone. They stop better then stock, last longer then stock, cost less then stock, have a lifetime warrantee and are sold at all Autozone stores nation wide. One nice thing about them is as long as you don't run your pads down to metal on metal, you should never have to cut your roters again.



I am installing another set this weekend, this time I think I will flush the brake fluid and repack the wheel bearings. (I think you can still do that on the 2wd trucks)

40K ago, I put in Raybestos Heavy Duty front pads. Doing a tire rotation two weeks ago, I pulled a set of new ones off the shelf and found that there was a few thousandths difference between mine and the new one. They stop great, are awesome on wear, and don't make any noise. And I have never had any dust on my wheels from them either. I do pull a trailer just in case you were gonna ask, and it weighs about 9000 lbs with the racer and tools and tent, etc. on it. I drain my brake fluid once a year, and when changing any brakes, I definitely bleed the calipers while pushing the pistons back in. Also, and most importantly, I remove the two sliding pins and clean them up and grease them with a high quality, synthetic brake parts grease. It keeps things wearing at the same rate.

Where are you buying the rebuild kits?

I get them from the same place I get my brake pads. I have never paid more than $5. 00 for a kit which usually consists of an o-ring and a cup boot. It will also have 2 coppper gakets for the brake line if you're lucky.

I've never changed friction material on the Ram. the fronts are fine and I cannot get the #$%#$ drums loose to check.



I usually buy the lifetime pads/shoes from my friendly auto parts store. I've used the lifetime warranty on 3 vehicles, one even got a threepeat.

One of the other posts on another thread said that the carbon metal pads ruin the rotors, requiring new rotors about as often as pads. They recommended the carbon kevlar pads in medium hardness. Any ideas or experiences on this?

Well I'm back----Been up in the Cascades for a few days exercising my horse & have been swamped at work these days what with a/c season & summer brake work---I also determined that there is a direct link from my butt to my eyes because when i sit down my eyes slam shut. Wife says that i need to see a doctor. Yea I'm smiling--thanks for all the compliments.

Steve H--in responce to that other thread about rotor wear---I don't know what brand pad he was using but that is one of the advantages of carbon pads in that they don't wear rotors. Carbomet brand stops great when they are cold

Thanks Sam, the other post was a little confusing. I had never heard of carbon kevlar pads before and had never seen where carbon metal pads would ruin the rotors. He didn't post what brand they were. I'll contact you by e-mail for some of the carbomets.

I had Sam install my new (replacement) a/c condensor and service the a/c system early this summer. Needless to say, his tech. completed the a/c work before we could even complete our discussion on brakes. Talk about quick, high quality service at a reasonable price. Guess where I'll be getting my brake parts (or the entire brake job done if I'm too busy and/or lazy)?

Jon, if your brakes are squealing due to the wear tabs or rivets rubbing you had better get on before you need to replace the rotors also.
