Is it ok to mount the antenna near the radio antenna? Should it instead go on the other side? Is the antenna a distraction on the driver side? Along with my Cobra 75 WX ST I bought a 4' Wilson antenna. Near of away from the cab? Thanks. .

Ive been doing alot of reading on this subject. I came to a conlusion that the best place is right in the center of the roof, however there is a fender mount firestick puts out that everyone seems to like, but I'm looking for the best performance that why I chose the K40 in the center of the roof, there is a better ground plane there and you get about 5-6dbs more cuz of the better groundplane... ... ... . Funny you should ask...

I spent all weekend dealing with just this topic. I have a 3' firestik II that I mounted on the fender using the first bolt near the cab. I could not get my swr below 3:1 in this location. After replacing about everything, running a new ground and then having a cb shop look at it (they couldn't even figure it out) I found the easy way to fix it was move the antenna out to the second bolt from the cab and this provided a much lower swr. To get a 1. 5:1 swr I had to go with a 4' antenna mounted on the second bolt from the cab. I hope this keeps you from spending as much time and money as I used to figure it out.

Good point Ray

I mounted on 2nd bolt out, 3' Firestik, Firestik s. s. mount. Quickly got it down to 1. 4:1 and have at least a 6 mile range with "stock" 4 watts. Check your SWR and experiment if necesssary. Have Fun, Jim G. :) By the way, I don't find this mount distracting at all.

guys

i just did some testing with some antenna's. with a wilson 2000 i could get my swr down to 1. 3@150w. i also tried another no name from the local truck stop and got about the same results. someone told me to try a wilson 1000 magnet mount and my swr meter doesn't even move on 19@150w. on 40 it twitches but on 1 it doesn't. it is kind of spendy but it is unreal. not only that it works very well from 26khz to 30khz. they have a money back guarantee that it will out perform the antenna it places.
