Who makes the best stainless steel nerf bars for our trucks?

Hey Doug, me again, LOL. I have a set of Smittybilt Nerfs, though mine are chrome, they can be had in stainless. I'm happy enough with mine, sure the design remains the same despite which material they are made of. They are not bolt on. I drilled about 6 or 7 holes per nerf for the install, but they are strong . They basically bolt right to the frame. Mine didn't come with any step tread, so I added HD friction/non skid tape for the winter and plan on putting the diamond plate steps on come spring. Here's a pic. of the drivers side ... #ad

Looks nice!! I would like to find a set that bolts right up and has the flat step on top (helps my mom when she visits). I have also seen some that stick out too far (IMHO).....

Guessing that you already doing it, but if not just surf around. There are alot of Nerf manufactures on the net, you should be able to find what you want, not sure on the direct bolt on but maybe some else here is ???

My smittybuilts were a direct bolt-on and have the steps/tread on them . Have held up very well so far, no rust or dents. However they are not stainless but I would guess they make the same style in ss. May make a difference I have qc longbed. My old extended cab short bed was rear bolt on front drill the frame.

Mine run from wheel to wheel and bolt onto the frame. They make the cab length also.

That would be me... ... I have the Chrome plated Stainless (aboout a year old now) and love em. They are a direct bolt on, and are as strong as any I've seen. No flex or anything, even when my 285 lb father in law gets in. They have the flat spot you're looking for with a treaded step and shine up like a new penny . You can never have too much of that!!!

Got Westins

I have the Stainless Steel Westins on my truck. they are a direct bolt on, you have to take the cab bolts out and put the long ones that come with the nurfs back in. Very strong set of bars. I'm about 200lbs and can jump up and down on them and there's no deflection. Westin also has great customer service as well, my drivers side nerf had a one of the black plastic steps that wouldn't stay down, the edge kept popping up on it. I called the 1-800 number on the warranty card and a nice woman answered the phone and sent me about 20 of the little clips that hold down the step. No problems since then and after 4 years they still look great, kind of pricey though at $480 for the Quadcab steps.

Westins

I have the Westins on my truck, they are pretty good. They mount up using the body mounts and two straps per side which connect to the body via self tapping screws. The straps mount to the bar side with large self tapping bolts in pre-drilled holes, not the best setup. A few guys have had trouble stripping those out. Don't overtorque and use blue Loctite if you go with the Westins and use the straps.



They don't hang down very far and stick out just far enough to protect the truck in parking lot situations. They are mounted pretty well, very little movement even with my big butt bouncing on them.

I've got the SMITTYBILT stainless bars on my '98 quad-cab. bolted right on,no drilling needed. they have the plastic step pads (4) on them. low maintenance they still look new after 3 years. price is based on quality,would buy them again !

I have the mopar, brushed aluminum ones. Bolt right up, but you do have some drilling (4 holes on each side of the body).



They have a flat surface and are the length of the cab. I just wish they would make a smaller version to fit the bed. Its very difficult to clean or grab something in the bed of the truck.

I'm have Grizzly stainless steel nerf bars on my truck. They have step pads for both the front doors and the quad cab doors. You replace two of the cab mount bolts with longer ones that go through the step mounts. They also come with a cross brace that you're supposed to attach to the body itself. I don't like drilling into the body unless ABSOLUTELY necessary (Michigan salt you know) so I didn't put them on and I haven't had any problems with them. They've been on their for 2 1/2 years (this is the third winter) and there's no corrosion on them at all. You can see pics at http://my.voyager.net/stevest/cumminsdiesel.htm .

Dave- BOY ain't that the truth!!!I ended up drilling and taping them because I could not even get mine started. Used locktite and have never had a problem.

wheel to wheel on his 2001 Quad Short bed and they are "Schweet".

This may sound nuts but I am always getting in at muddy construction sites. I was going to make aluminum grate type so I can stamp my feet. Make it run from the front to the back by the bed.

I bought the Westin nerfs because at the time they were the only black stainless bars out there. Subsequently, I found that the Smittybilt mounting hardware doesn't require drilling holes in the body supports and is therefore (IMHO) superior to the Westin hardware. After many LD phone calls I was able to purchase a Smittybilt hardware kit, and have installed it on the Westins. I'da saved a lot of hassle if I'd bought the Smittybilts in the first place. It may all be for naught because I am considering acquiring the factory ground effects package to replace the nerfs anyway.
