Best way to fix hole in fuel line??

In the last steps of putting together my Cummins Crew conversion I found a slice in the plastic fuel supply line that runs from the tank to the motor. I'm still learning about diesels... . is this supply line under high pressure? I'm wondering what I should do to fix it. Would just splicing a piece of rubber hose where the hole is, with two hose clamps, be safe/good enough? I would slice the part with the hole out, and put a piece of rubber hose to mate the two plastic hose ends together. The only issue I see, is that of course you cannot "flare" the plastic hose ends, like you could if it were a metal fuel line.



Any other suggestions?

The fuel hose is the same as used for air brake systems. Not quite sure what size our line is however it really dosn't matter. Cut out a section, 8 inches or so and take it to the local OTR truck dealership. They will give you a length of air brake line that you cut to length. They will also supply you with the two splice connectors. These connectors are brass and made to connect two ends of plactic tubing together. You will do this to each end. They contain a ferrel and a nut.



These lins are not subject to any pressure. You will however, have to obtain a leak free conection as the supply line is under a vacuum and will induce air into the system. ie engine will not run well at all.



I'm thinking they are most likely 3/8th inch O. D. plastic tube. I just looked and compered it to tubeing I have in the shop. It's bigger than 1/4 inch and smaller than 1/2 inch.

Hey thats nothin... one time I snapped off a bolt to one of my rocker covers (#5 to be specific) and I really really needed my truck that night. It was a saturday, and my band had a gig that night. Nobody was open that could help me, I didn't have a reverse drill bit or anything. SOO..... what did I do? I balled up a good sized piece of duct tape and stuck it in the bolt hole of the rocker cover. Next ( ) i found a rock that was flat on bottom, round on top and stuck on the ball of duct tape!! Then (just wait!) I found a heavy duty tie down and strapped it around the engine and cranked 'er down hard!! The duct tape provided the seal, the rock provide the equal distribution of down force, and the tie down WAS the down force!!! :-laf Talk about intuitive thinking! lol, I wish I still had pictures of that...

i was thinking more along the lines of a rope-and-pulley system for my windshield wipers... they haven't worked in 3 weeks (darned drive came detached from the motor)... thank god for Rain X! btw, I don't even know Red Green... sounds like him and I should have a little chat!! :-laf

He has his own TV show. All about guys scratching themselves and fix'n stuff. building stuff with duct tape and an occasional sledge hammer.



Red will be happy to change a head lamp fer ya. But I wouldn't be sure that the vehicle will be drivable afterwards.
