Hey all.

Diesel hit $3. 70 here in North-Central Idaho today. Not good. On a brighter note, I added a BHAF with my own 'heat shield' and an outerwears cover a couple of months ago and have seen an increase in my mileage as follows:

1st tank after install- 18. 2 mpg

2nd tank - 18. 5

3rd tank - 16. 5 (DEEP snow, lots of 4-Hi and 4-Low)

4th tank - 17. 2

5th tank - 17. 4

Last winter with my stock airbox and the mods listed in my sig I generally got around 16 mpg with a couple of 15's in there with heavy use of 4wd. In general I guess you could say Im getting about 1% percent better mileage most of the time. Summer driving empty will probly show my best possible mileage at this point. Tires in use are 285/75's on 16 inch rims that are 10 inches wide. This fall after farming is done Im switching back to stock 8" wheels and will put a set of 255/85's on. Narrower face may give a little better mileage, but will definitely be better on ice!

Am also considering an Edge Mileage Max sometime in the future. If it could get me more in the 19 mpg range that would be ideal. Also considering a Mileage Max for my dad's '07. 5. He is getting around 14-15 at best. If anybody has any advice I would appreciate it. Going for fuel mileage only now. The HR 44 and honed injectors are producing PLENTY of power.

Thanks, Cole.

I didnt' notice any kind of mileage increase with my BHAF and heatshield. Then again, nothing I do to my truck seems to boost my mileage any. I must be one of the lucky ones#@$%!

Have you recalibrated your speedometer between these different tires, that could be the difference you are seeing.

Our last tdr magazine had an article on these as far as horsepower, stating that they dont help, Why is my turbo whine louder? its gotta be breathing easier.

Yes, the speedo has been re-calibrated. The store I bought the tires from also employs the guy who installed my HR VP, so he hooked up the rig and adjusted for tire size when I was there. I will have him do the same thing this fall when I get my 255's.
