Anyone running a BHAF have any oil analysis data? I need to buy an intake for my 1999 CTD and am considering the BHAF over the aFe but want to see how effective the filtration really is??

Thanks

Phil

PRyker,

I don't have any data, but out here on the dusty SD prairie, an oiled filter doesn't last long. For the amount of air flow and filtration quality of a BHAF with a prefilter, its not a tough decision. Cost is a plus, too, along with not having to wash and re-oil the filter. I'm not bashing the oiled filter, it just doesn't fit in out here.

PM me for a BHAF/Prefilter setup.

In a couple of weeks I'll have analysis reports for my truck after installation of the BHAF - could be sorta slanted tho', since this analysis will be done on Delo 400 15/40 at 20,000 miles as part of my extended oil use with dino oils...

Samples were pulled this afternoon, and will be sent both to Blackstone and CAT...

My somewhat erratic test results...

:( sorry no samples with stock filter.

I have 5 miles of dirt road leading to my house and yearly rainfall less than 4" so plenty of dry dust :-laf

silicon:7, 17,350 miles, 7500 miles on oil, K&N in stock box, visible dust in hose.

silicon:4, 26,200 miles, 8700 miles on oil, K&N with significant effort to achieve a better seal, still dust trace in hose.

BHAF installed around 40,000?

silicon:3, 65,656 miles, 11,732 miles on oil, BHAF, no more dust in hose :)

silicon:0, 76,675 miles, 11,019 miles on oil, BHAF

New BHAF installed somewhere over 100,000

silicon:2, 117,315 miles, 12,244 miles on oil, BHAF

I find the "0" on the 35,000+ mile BHAF interesting, it wasn't very dirty when I changed it, after about 60,000 miles the screen had become dammaged from the slight bouncing and I didn't want to risk the paper being damaged.

The dang BHAFs last so long I occasionally rotate the filter in the hose. At least get a different wear spot for a while!

Thanks guys. I will be ordering my BHAF today. Just a few questions...

1. What is the cheapest place to order online?

2. Do you guys just let it sit on the fender? How do you secure it?

Thanks

I have a BHAF heatshield, and use a bungi cord to hold the filter in place.

Phil,

I pulled the mushroom-shaped inserts from the stock airbox - the ones that fit over the threaded studs on the fender well. Place these inserts on the studs with the large (head) end facing up. The BHAF will rest on those just fine.

My truck has the Jacobs exhaust brake with a vacuum solenoid mounted on the passenger's side of the firewall. This keeps the BHAF off of the aluminum A/C lines back by the firewall. If you don't have anything like this, slip some foam plumbing insulation over the A/C lines to keep the BHAF from rubbing against them.

I use a stainless steel LarryB's heat shield on the hot end of the turbocharger.
