I have several friends that race at Sikeston with Lightnings. One of them sold his and bought a Chevy with the 5. 3 engine and slapped a whipple on it. The Chevy with the whipple, reprogrammed ecm, air intake, exhaust, and drag radials outran his Lightning with the same setup. He managed to get his Lightning into the 7. 90s with Nitrous but lost 2 engines in the process. A guy from Malden Mo has one of the fastest Lightnings in that area and has rebuilt the motor in it and with nitrous has ran 7. 60s which is knocking on the 11. 90s door in the 1/4. A friend of mine and my Dads from Dexter has a Lightning with the ecm reprogrammed, exhaust, K & N, smaller pulley and a few other things that Duckett over at the Bluff did for him and it ran high 8. 40s with drag radials. And there is a guy out here where I live now that has the smaller pulley, ecm, exhaust, slicks, and a few other things he won't talk about running 12. 70s. The friend I spoke of with the Chevy has a 6. 0 in it now with a Z06 cam and the whipple back on it and ran a 7. 77 last weekend on 92 octane pump gas with major traction problems. I've seen a bunch of the Lightnings run low to mid 13s with the normal boltons. 12s in the 1/4 is going to take an 8. 30 or quicker in the 1/8 mile. 90% of the bone stock Lightnings run anywhere from an 8. 90 to an 9 teen in the 1/8 where the fastest stock Hemi I've watched run ran a 9. 78 in the 1/8. Whether the bottom end of the Hemi will handle N20 or blowers is yet to be known. But I hear that Paxton is about to release their blower soon as will Kenne-Bell.
