I took a piece of plywood that was a little larger than the 3 filter mounting bolts and used those bolts to fasten it down and then gota BIG hose clamp, fastened it to the plywood and clamped the filter down that way. The firewall end of the filter is a solid cover.

Wedged tight.......

I don't even think mine bounces around. I covered the one existing bolt that it touches and it hasn't even dented the mesh on the filter. I did add a piece of ABS pipe to mine to install the stock filter minder. That extra length might help hold it better.

On another note I broke down and ordered the exhaust blanket from Geno's. Personally I don't mind the rusted manifold look. I'm just hoping the cover goes over the turbo enough to make a difference. Supposedly it will keep some of the heat from the upper engine compartment and thats where this filter seems to get a lot of its air.

When I get it installed I will post the results.

The firewall end is plugged. I re-used the rubber grommets from the stock air box on the studs for the box, used some thick black zip ties to space them up a little. The air filter just sits in that tripod type cradle, and the hood insulation just touches it a bit with the hood closed. It may wiggle a little, but it's not going anywhere.

A pair of locking pliers got rid of my bolts quickly and easily. Figured I'd never go back to the old filter, so why leave them in.

I've heard a very slight rattle (new one over all the old ones:D ) and suspect the new filter. Might install a strap of some kind...

Thanks again Moparguy

Just got mine

Order through cummins,$55. 00 (CDN). Seems to run about the same, haven't had it out on a long run yet. One thing it did get rid of is the little cloud of smoke when I get on it,pre-boost. Time to crank up the AFC a bit more ! :D

I mounted it on a homemade heatshield, bent from aluminum. Bolted it to the studs, and secured the filter with 2 BIG hose clamps slipped through a slot in the aluminum. Don't know how much the heat shield helps, because I installed it all together. The engine side of the filter still gets pretty hot though, maybe the aluminum isn't the right stuff. The filter also seems to rub on the hood insulation as well,so I may have to lower it a bit.

If you are in Canada, tell Cummins to order it from the Fleetguard warehouse,in Missisauga, and they will have it the next day. They originally told me 3 weeks to get it from the US,and the price was much higher. Called the 800-22FILTER,and they told me Cummins could have it next day.

NAPA,or UAP as they are called up here, can get it as well, but the part number is different for Canada. The UAP number is 42790,and cost is $59. 00.

Arrrrgh...

Called my local NAPA and they want $59!!! Cummins Midwest in Indy doesn't stock it and because of that it doesn't show up on their computers. Soooo, they said they can't give me a price. Any one in my area picked one of these up for a decent price??

Zman, call Cummins Interstate Power in Columbus, Ohio--614-771-1000. They are a distributor, not just a repair facility. I think the price was about $42. 00.

BHAFs

i haven't seen the filter you all are using, but i had a fleetguard

AF353K that i had picked up at a freight salvage place. the openig on the big end just fits on the airhose. i wrapped one layer of duct tape around the airhose, stuck that in the filter, then rtv'd the seam. piece of tape on the bolt hole on the other end, and used a giant wire tie to hold it where the oem airbox was. sits behind the battery on the fender well about an inch away from the turbo housing. you might compare prices and surfaace area of the two filters. the filter area is 9" long by 30" in circumference for a total area of270 sq in. the air bos uses a filter about 9 1/2" by 11"--105 sq in. haven't priced the filter at cummins, and have no idea what it is for... ... ... . just an alternative filter. . :)

Little Bill,

The Wix42790 runs $ 24 and tax in this part of Mississippi and 39 for the NAPA 2790 made by Wix. Cummins gets 38 for the fleetgard. This filter is about 390 sq. in. and stock filter is 120 sq. in. as posted by JohnE on the first page of this topic. This filter has lowered my egts by 100 degrees and added about 1mpg over all to my lead foot and decressed in cab noise that was present running the K&N in the stock air box without the snorkle.

OK, made some calls to Cummins and Fleetguard:

Per Cummins:

The ISB245 requires 602 cfm at 3200 rpm

Per Fleetguard:

The "stock" AF25541 has a 97. 5% initial efficiency, 99. 5% final, and holds 400 grams of dirt. A cfm rating was not available, but it should be adequate for the 602 cfm quoted by Cummins, sincethat is the intended application.

The AH19037 has a "marine" version, the AH19004. The only difference between the standard and marine versions is an internal mesh to prevent collapse of a damp filter element under load - both have identical efficiency ratings. I questioned this since earlier posts said the Marine filters generally weren't as good, but the Fleetguard tech insisted it was equal to the AH19037 as far as filtration ability. They could not quote a micron rating. AH stands for "air housing", meaning the filter is designed to be self-supporting versus having to be placed in a box or canister.

Both the AH19037 and the AH19004 have a 99. 9% final efficiency, are rated for 918. 19 cfm, and hold 830 grams of dirt. My local Cummins price is $ 131 for the AH19004, $46 for the AH19037.

My AH19037 is on order.

My thanks to all who contributed to this thread - I'm looking forward to less oily mess under the hood!

Bottom Line: I'm going to try the AH19037.

Thanks for the research. Been scratching my head since reading your post. If Cummins says their engine needs 602 CFM at 3200 RPM, then how is it that the stock filter surface area can support 602 CFM when the BHAF probably has at least double the surface area (and can hold more than twice the dirt) but "only" flows 918 CFM? I realize that the filter media has an impact on the flow rate, but I doubt the stock filter media is more efficient than the BHAF per square inch. Maybe it is the size of the filter opening that restricts the BHAF to "only" 918 CFM???

Oh well, I'm gonna buy the BHAF just as soon as I can find one close by at a reasonable price.

Picked up a BHAF from the Dallas office yesterday for $35. 55 in case any are checking prices. They don't keep them in stock so you'll need to have them order it for you. Most of the NAPA's around here wanted $60. 00 so I didn't mind waiting...

Part Number AH19037

Status Questions:

1. I recall reading several were gonna compare the K&N 0880 filter to the MoparGuy Filter. But I dont recall seeing results. Anybody get this done?

2. Anyone make a heat shield for this yet?

3. Any more feedback on WET weather problems? How many NWBOMBers using this? Problems?

Thanks,

i want to go with this filter too, to replace my k and n cone. i too, am concerned about wet weather use, driving through creeks etc, road spray, heavy rains slush etc. with no screen inside to hold the media if it gets wet and weakens with the turbo trying to suck it into the engine.

i am also concerned about the heat with it being so close to the turbo. i worry that if i move my homemade stainless steal heat sheild over, it will still be too warm from lack of airspace between the shield and turbo and filter.

anyone have any major heating of the filter to where they were concerned about fire. ?

I always use my 2k psi pressure washer on the widest fan setting to wash my truck. No problems there. About two weeks ago, I went through rain, the likes of which I would expect to see Noah. No problem. I have ideas on some sheilding but have not taken time to try anything yet. I have opened the hood after hard pulls and have yet to find it at a point where I was really concerned. I did finally manage to get the EGT's up to "backoff" levels. I had an IH 1700 series single axle dump with plow frame on my gooseneck pullling a serious hill though.
