Cary. thanks, yes, I would be smoking diesel;) . I do remember you showing them to me, but I thought for sure that he also came down to one of our get togethers. None-the-less, if he isn't reachable or is no longer making them, then Jeff should go for it. I would be interested as well. .

Jeff, I recieved the oil filter socket today... you did a great job! I can't wait to try it out! Regards, Marty

here is some food for thought ... ... .

In incorporating the ports in the cap, you really need some way of clocking their location. With a thread, that will take additional tooling. I would have to actually thread the part into a fixture before drilling and tapping. That all goes out the window if the mating part is not is not threaded in the same manner and than it becomes impossible to predict the port location.

The quick and easy fix is to put the ports in the center. But, you have limited space available with out putting a hex drive so large that most would have to buy a socket to remove it.

BGiles threw out the idea of eliminating the hex drive and adding the profile of a fluted oil filter. This would make is easier for port location and allow my oil filter socket to perform double duty as well. The down side would be that the owner of this creation would have to have my oil filter socket as well.

Waddyall think?

I think I would rather have mine with a hex on top for using a socket for removal and no port. I have my FP gauge tied into the fuel line and don't really need another port. And the easier I can remove the filter cap, the better. But that's just me. I'll take either way you make it.

Are these going to be anadized in some particular color, or will color be an option? I might take mine in raw aluminum and polish it.

In theory, if the top of the Fuel Filter Cap is made exactly like the bottom of an oil filter, ANY filter socket should be able to remove the cap. And I believe, that most of you, have such a tool in the garage somewhere. ;)

RE:Filter cap

I don't need the ports ether!

You can make both with & without PORTS:D :D :D

Ill take one without,Depending on cost:confused:

Thanks

David:D :D :D

Here are some photo's of what I have. The top is hard to photograph because it is black. The socket made so as not to damage the hex to remove the top. The socket is lined with plastic.

Any thoughts on doing a billet valve cover for 3rd gens? Doesn't seem to be much out there for us and all we get is this ugly black plastic thing.

I don't think a pressure port would be needed, and it would be hard to remove each time unless you have a swivel to take the twist out.

TBrennan,One of our local members is in the process of having a billet cover made to replace the plastic cover on the 03-04's. Hang in there . . not too much longer.

I think that's the guy, but I didn't find my feed back or his. The hex on mine is 1". I wonder why he was banned from the TDR?

Ok guys the original billet fuel filter cover is alive and well. They are being produced by Lonnie Turner, here in so Cal. He has a total of 15 cnc machines at his disposal. No problem keeping up with the TDR demand. If you have any questions about these caps feel free to PM me.

I think I'm going to go ahead and do a design. The material will be a little more, but there will 1 less mill operation and no broaching when comparing to the filter socket, and plating is minimal.
