Bio Diesel contraption

I wonder what the percentage of vegetable/animal fats is in restaurant oils? One nasty thing that can get into restaurant oils is plastics, especially styrofoam packaging from meats. We occassionally get this in the yellow grease we get in our plant. This can mess things up.

I can see D/C putting the ka-put on my 7/100k warranty if I came in with my exhaust smelling like french frys. I think Ill pay the pump price and save my warranty for now, until I can get something in writing from D/C.

Well I am running about 70% bio in the truck now, about 100 miles and so far all is well. Only problem so far is the kids running behind me wanting frys they think I am Ronold McDonald. It kinda smells like hot oil in a pan or when you put on a new exhaust on and the oil in the pipe is burning off.

I'd be interested in the mileage. If you only get 10 mpg on this stuff, it's not worth it, you're still paying the same. The current bio-diesel you can get at the pump yields only about 13-14 mpg for me, and it costs more. What's the gain for me? Nothing. I already have a truck that burns cleaner than a small 4 cyl gas job, so I'm not worried about what I'm doing to the environment.



What do you think the long-term affects are on the engine?

You are correct about the mileage I will be keeping a close eye on it as time goes. I see no indication of worse mileage so far.



As far as long term affects I will never know, my truck has ate more turbo's than most people will ever see and I am sure that is not good for the long term. I have about 120K on it now so we will see as I go.



One big benefit I see so far is a very big decrease in smoke which is great. My truck has been slightly modified.

It's a little off the biodiesel topic, but I would like to figure out how to build a mixing tank where one could mix in some #4 fuel oil with their #2. I don't believe the #4 has any die and it would increase the BTU over straight #2. This would increase power and mileage, and be especially beneficial as the pump fuels out there become lighter and more environmentally "friendly". I'm sure #4 fuel oil is much much cheaper than #2.



One would have to do some studying and determine what the BTU is of both fuels and the combination of the two. They'd have to have a blending tank and then filter it well before putting it their truck.

I have been working on a couple of contacts for waste oil. Are there types to avoid i. e. coconut oil blends. I have found two places that use around 7 gallons every other day, but I don't want to commit if the oil is not usable.

Hi Ron, I think you are on to something with the coconut and palm oils. It can be used but is a little more work. I am no expert but go here http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve these guys and gals are very nice and if you search around you will find the answers. So far the places I have found oil use vegtable oil heavy on the soy.



My truck is running great so far along with Cliffman's 04 as well. We will keep you posted as the miles stack on.
