Hey guys. So I'm posting this thread for a buddy of mine who has a 96 cummins 2500 with the 47re transmission. The problem that we keep having is that once and a while the truck will not allow 1st or overdrive to work, just 2nd and third, thats it. The only way to get it out of this problem is that we have to pull out fuse number 9 on the driver side of the dash, the engine fuse, start the truck, let it stall, then reinstall the fuse, then the shifting problem would go away for maybe half a month then reappear. We then go through the whole fuse ordeal again in hopes that the problem goes away again. So does anyone have any clue what might be going on because this has been a real brain buster not only because we are pulling out the engine fuse but that it would reoccur every once and a while.

Thanks I'll pull the connections and clean the up and see how it behaves. I forgot to mention too that it has a new transmission and we replaced the governor pressure solenoid and the transducer solenoid as well.

Hey guys. so I finally found the problem with my buddies transmission. for a while his fuel solenoid was giving him problems and I didn't think that would effect the trans at all. Come to find out that the pull relay was bad and it was drawing too much amps away from the trans. If you read on the earlier post that I was unplugging and repluging fuse number nine which is only the fuse for the fuel shut off solenoid. And it was the only way to get the truck to shift normally again. So after hours of headaches I figured we mine as well change the bad relay just in case it was effecting the transmission amperage. And it was! The truck shifts beautifully without any hiccups for almost two months now! It used to act up every other week! So to some up our trans problem- it was a bad pull relay on the fuel shutoff solenoid. Problem solved!
