There aren't many sources for silicon hence my comment on removing air intake piping. It takes a surprisingly small amount of dirt to show in a UOA. Major filter manufacturers like Donaldson and Fleetgaurd have a pretty firm stance on "over servicing" of filters and if you are swapping yours out every oil change, much less disturbing other connections I'd wager you fall into that category. We live in very different climates but my air filters get changed every 3-4 oil changes. I've personally only changed 2 filters through almost 100k miles of use. Again, very different climate but my silicon levels have never come close to that of yours (9ppm max across 4 UOA).

Aside from the obvious (dirt ingestion). According to Schaeffer's, where I get my UOA, Silicone gasket maker, coolant additives, and anti foaming agents are the next big contributors of silicon in a UOA. You can easily account for or eliminate those sources.

I get it but it still does not explain all the excellent reports doing everything the same then it changed.

This is why I don’t do oil analysis. I do what I’m supposed to, change fluids and filters at recommended intervals, and drive on. I treat my truck well and it has served me well. I don’t worry and fret about problems that haven’t happened.

Do you have a problem with your truck? Is there something wrong with it RIGHT NOW? If there is, fix it or get rid of it. If not, drive on and quit fretting over something that’s not there.

@Cummins12V98, When did you do the oil change in relation to the trans issue? When the trans comes out, there's a lot of wiggling that has to happen and wonder if that caused clamp to be loose since it's attached to components that are ridged mounted. This is why rubber connections are used between them. Just throwing it out there as 1 possible issue. Hopefully it'll clear up on the next UOA!

Something has caused a big change and I would like to know what has caused it so it can be corrected. Earlier reports at 15k I was told I could run even longer once past warranty.

Biggest reason for me doing the testing is I simply will not change my oil every 6 months and I figure this would back me up showing good reports if there was an issue.

Trans was done in late November and oil change was late January with around 2,000 miles added since trans.

The trans RnR looked straight forward to me.

Back of engine looked good.

Anyone use those Vampire suction oil sample kits? They look pretty slick.

comrade - as coincidence has it, i have one of the suction kits on my desk now. its called " zengine. " i plan on taking a sample this week and sending it in. the kit has a vacum bottle with a valve on it and a syringe along with it in case you lose the vacum. the kit cost around 40. comes with a pre paid shipping label to drop it back in the mail. cheers! :)

When you consider the contamination per mile it’s not a big change, and not out of line.

Ram will do nothing for you based on UOA, especially those UOA’s that don’t show a failing engine.

If you want to know what’s causing the added wear metals, if anything is even wrong, then it will be on your dime to tear it down and inspect it.

I got the kit once from Blackstone when I had my Ford Superduty , I almost did it , that's as close as I have ever got .

Hahaha... me TOO.. I have my first oil sample in a mason jar sitting on my workbench from the 4800mi first oil change (sitting right next to the Blackstone bottle that came) and I was going to send it in but forgot to grab a sample at 15k when I did the last change, I never did it on my 04 for the over 100k miles and never had an issue just kept up on the service and PM.. also John and other's have convinced me its really not worth the effort.. Heck I'd probably perseverate over a small variance in the data that most owners never see or think of. Then I'd need to add some of my "new CP4.2 additive" aka Buffalo Trace, to keep things on the rails.

Understood!

After warranty is up sampling is a good way to know how far you can go. My son was told to go longer at 22k on his 15 3500 AISIN. He runs AMZ/OIL Diesel and Marine 15-40 and EAO80 filter. He is fully deleted.

I have had good luck on all my vehicles by changing oil / filter annually, Heck on my 04 3500 the cost of the analysis is almost as much as the oil change, so I guess to each is own. I deal with enough data and numbers in my work, no need to bring it home. :D

Lower hose is post filter, it could easily suck air thru a loose lower clamps and into the engine without dirtying the intake. It doesn’t take much to show on the UOA.
If I recall correctly..... @Cummins12V98 had to replace a lower charge air cooler hose due to perhaps the clock position of a spring clamp rubbing a slight hole in it.....but I’m not sure if that would have had anything to do with his OA or not.

^^ Interesting that the clamp position could cause a pinch point / hole. All good reasons for me to use the provided spot in the side of the fender liner to continue to change the filter... Sorry Ron I couldn't resist..
