coming back from south florida in the last 110 miles of a 1500 mile ride i blew a injector line.

all of a sudden i smelled a wicked diesel smell. it smelled like somone dumped 5 gallons of diesel in the cab! check engine light came on and truck lost power. went from 55mph to 45mph in 2 minutes to 35mph. egt was running around 1300 and boost was 20-40! limped it 20 miles to the weigh station where truck died soon as i slowed to 15mph. i lost half a tank of fuel in 20 miles! i had diesel coming in from the hole above the pedals that ran down my carpet and pooled on my huskey mat!

this is the second time ive blown a injector line. bolth times were on the number 5 cylinder.

is this a common problem or am i just that lucky?

its really lucky my co-pilot had AAA! i couldnt imagine what it would cost to have the truck towed! worst part was they couldnt tow the 21foot boat back with the truck. a good friend(who i owe big time now!) drove the 110 miles down and hauled the boat back at 5:45am for me!

Are you sure it wasn't number 4? It's the second one from the back and #6 is on the back of the head. Number 4 was replaced be an updated version because of it's higher failure rate. Not sure about the others.

Number 4 is the silver line in the middle of the picture:

#ad

As I've stated in another thread, if I had a CR I'd have a #4 line and wrenches in the glove box at ALL times.

They had a run of bad ones. When you replace it, be sure the holder is tightly clamped on the line and has it held securely. Vibration is your enemy.

it could be the number 4. ill know for sure when i pick up my truck. first time it was #5.

so i should order a extra #4 line? how hard is it to bleed one of these cr engines when a line lets go? anyone have a link to the procedure i could print and keep in the truck?

There's no bleeding at all - the system self primes. After I replaced mine it didn't even stumble.

Yep, I've sold a 5 gallon bucket full of #4's and never one of the others.

I've also never heard of a "bad run of #4's". If that was the case I would think the new ones were better. I have one guy that his #4 has been replaced 3 times. That means he's on his 4th line. He keeps a spair in his truck now.

There is a blue holder /clamp/support that is famous for coming loose and/or falling off.

It supports the injector line and keeps it from vibrating.

OIf it's not there the line will vibrate and fracture.

Is it missing?

If it's there is it tight?

I don't doubt this, the new line comes with a new clamp.

I saw a kit offered someplace that changed the fuel rail and tubes to the newer 6. 7 ltr engine. If mine fails again on my 05 I will be making this change.....
