My 96 12v stock engine, 4sp, with 215,000 on a new short block ( all other engine compoents have 385,000 on them. Block replaced after a quick lube station left the oil plug loose. ) has taken to blowing oil out the breather tube when the boost exceeds 10psi. This is to the tune of 2 gallons in 30 miles if pushed hard. As long as boost is kept lower that 10psi very little oil is lost.
I thought it might be coming from the vacuum pump, but have eliminated that by blocking the vac inlet for a test drive. I checked the KDP and tabed it, installed a new tappet cover gasket, installed a seal kit in the vacuum pump, resetting the valves and checking every oil line in sight.
I pull a bumper pull utility and cargo trailer, each under 3k lb. The oil leaks with or without a trailer, coating the underside of the chassis to the point of dripping off the differential.
I purchased this unit used from and individual with 368K and have no clue to how it was treated in its earlier life. Except for the fact that I did get a repair order from a deaerlship in Georgia for the shortblock replacement.
As of now I'm down to the conclusion that the rings are weak. Anyone have any other suggestions. I'll do the work myself and put my 40+yrs mechanic experience to the test. Looking for 500K out of this unit and hope it outlasts me.
