Boost elbow needed for Edge EZ on 2002?

Several folks here have opined that the boost elbow is not needed on the ETH/DEE 2002 when installing an Edge EZ fueling box. After reading the verbiage in the product documentation I was inclined to agree. Still, I wondered why Edge would include the boost elbow if it wasn't needed. I gave them a call and spoke with Aaron. Aaron told me that unless the boost elbow was installed the wastegate would still open at ~20psi boost. With the elbow installed it should go to 26 or 27psi. I assume that this extra boost will help to keep EGT's down.



The long and short of things is that Aaron says the docs are poorly worded. The docs say the product will work equally well with or without the boost elbow. True, the box itself will work either way but it's better to install the boost elbow to help keep EGT's down.

jpark... no doubt, install the boost elbow. I didn't try my EZ w/o the elbow installed. After seeing what my egt's were when stock I knew I needed more boost if I added more fuel. You won't regret using the boost elbow, believe me.

I installed the boost elbow at the same time as the EZ. Unfortunately, I also installed a 4" Jardine exhaust system that same weekend, therefore I'm not sure which results are derived from which modification. In total, though, these three mods (EZ, boost elbow, 4" exhaust) totally transformed the towing ability of our ETH/DEE. Exhaust temps when towing are down 200 degF (1300 max down to 1100 max). Boost is up from 22 PSIG to 30-32 PSIG. Fuel economy is up about 10%. Mid-range torque is up a bunch.



Another benefit of installing the boost elbow is that it will cut down on the smoke you'll get from the EZ installation. I realize to some people, that might not be a benefit, but for a 5ver tower who has to clean the soot off the 5ver, it's a plus!
