Thank You all for the good info. Like mentioned earlier, I dont know much about diesel engines so this is going to be a good learning experience. That's some heavy towing alright!!!
I am going to keep pulling the trailer , in the mean time it sounds like I have some money to save up for parts. Its going to be a good project to have done by spring.

If anything I'd upgrade the stock fuel pump asap and get a fuel psi gauge that'd be my main concern and keep the rest stock till you can address the trans

Yep, fuel pressure gauge is a must, the OEM lift pump is weak and reliability is hit or miss. Trans temp is another important one to get. How many miles on the trans? The 47re is so so with stock power, not so much when you start adding it. You can put a good valve body in it set up for towing to up the line pressure and help its chances of survival. Maybe a good single disc convertor if you can afford it. I would not consider any power adders until after the trans is addressed, otherwise you are sure to lose the reliability you've come to expect.

the axles are set up like on log trailer its a walking beam axle setup no leaf springs it has 8 tires

Okay, that's a heavy duty trailer then, probably 20-25k gvw. Is that an Econoline trailer? They build trailers like that, with the 4 axles and 8 tires. Does it have 8 brakes then? The inner tire must be a bummer, to change a flat.

the transmission has about 50,000 miles. when the truck had about 50,000 miles on it I took it to the dealer for warranty work, back then I had a 28 foot 5th wheel I was towing around, it wasn't very heavy. while pulling the trailer the truck would shudder at higher speeds and it wouldn't shift right. Under normal driving conditions with no trailer the truck wouldn't shudder but the transmission just wouldn't shift right, so the dealer put a new transmission in under warranty.

So you have a stock transmission. A stock transmission will handle at 50-60 extra HP, more than that will toast it pretty quickly. SNOKING

Your lift pump or transfer pump (one in the same) pulls fuel from the tank, pushes it through the fuel filter and supplies the high pressure injection pump. The lift pump should be mounted to the rear of the engine block on the drivers side unless it was replaced by the dealer then there's a good chance they installed the replacement lift pump in the tank. Dodge quickly learned the heat and vibrations of the engine makes quick work of an electric lift pump and discontinued the block mounted pumps in favor of the tank mounted.
Have you ever had any problems with your lift pump? If your on the original block mounted Carter pump, your one of the lucky ones. That being said, I'd not count on continued luck.

Flats are a b*tch but I try to keep good tires on it nothing like changing a flat on i15 in salt lake rush hour . It will haul anything you can load on. It main frame is 12 inch buy 3/8 I beam has cross members every 12 inch out of 3 inch channel. Yes 8 brakes on er
