Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Boost question?

I recently installed a k&n cone filter and my egts went up about 200 degrees. I tried a heat shield and it didnt change any thing, also my boost does not build as fast. At WOT I can still hit 32 psi but it falls off pretty fast.

I've heard the K&N filters are not the best filter to use on these engines. I think mine is causing some problems now. I'd go BHAF if I were you - cheap and easy.

The problem with the K&N air filter system I found, is that the oil used in the filter gets sucked out and into the turbo making the filter a good rock guard. All the displays we see at the parts store show a k&n flowing more that a conventional paper type filter. The k&n does not have any oil in it. Oil the filter and then see which one flows better. After using the filter for 10,000 miles and finding this out I installed a Bhaf (napa #2790) and an outerwares water repellant pre filter ( in your choice of colors). The setup works great and the air filters are about half the cost af a K&N.

Where is the best place to get the BHAF(cheapest). The reason i got the K&N is it was cheaper and reusable.





I guess if your gonna do it, do it right the first time.
