Can anyone tell me if you do not have the boost elbow that comes with the E Z box( using stock elbow ) will the box still have the same effect or will it be down on power because of lower boost presure. Dealer replaced turbo and took the E Z elbow with the old turbo , using stock elbow.

Get in touch with Edge and have them send you another, the advantage of having higher boost is lower EGT's and thats always a good thing. Oo.

The elbow that comes with the EZ will have no noticable effect on power, but will have a noticable effect on EGTs; especially when towing.

so what egts can you pull when empty and level 4 EZ without the elbow??

and with the elbow?

(i am still trying to figure out why I only max out at 1000 deg. on pre-turbo with EZ-lvl-4,  )

hmm...

Sounds like the dealer replaced your turbo. Just curious if they replaced it under warranty or if it was void after they saw the E Z elbow?

That's a good question, one I'll be able to answer by the end of the weekend after I tow my camper. I've had the boost elbow installed for about 9 months and took it off and put back the stock elbow tonight. I'm curious to see what effect it will actually have on EGT's.

With the elbow installed, I could reach 30 lbs. of boost very infrequently, usual max was 28 or so. EGT's were tough to go much past 1000 on more level ground. I managed to 1100 pretty easily over and through Eisenhower towing my 4000 lbs. trailer.

I'll report back after this weekend's towing.

Note, all temps are pre-turbo.

I bet putting it on a stock truck would get you an overboost code.

I don't know about there not being a power increase with or without the elbow. . My truck seemed noticably faster with the Edge on level 4 with the elbow vs. without. 35 psi vs. 22 psi has got to involve some power.

boost elbow?

thanx for all the reply`s. the dealer did replace the whole turbo and took the elbow with it, they don`t have a clue whats in there, hope the warrenty dept. doesn`t. the turbo grenaded!!! threw alll kinds of crap thru the intake, notheing hurt, except now the truck is leaking oil like crazy, maybe they left the drain plug loose when they changed the oil. will let you know the outcome. :--) BTW- this is not my truck- friends

No Seatofthepants difference but the elbo produces about 10psi more boost. This does effect the egt numbers dramatically. I could hit 1400* easy with out it, and now I'm 100 - 150* lower. Important - keep your old elbow and throw it in when you take the truck in for service. The only thing different will be the clamp. I will just be running a ring/band clamp... ... and play stupid. Hope that will get me by.

Dealers - forget about what I just said

Go back to work and stay busy.....

Well, I towed my 4k trailer this weekend with the stock boost elbow and the EZ on level 3. The replacement boost elbow definitely lowers EGT's. With the stock elbow, I was able to hit 1100 with little trouble and hit 1200 a couple of times towing east on the "flatlands. " I never hit 1200 with the replacement boost elbow even going through Eisenhower tunnel.

In my case, using the EZ with the stock boost elbow, an EGT gauge is a must. Using the replacement boost elbow, I was never able to hit high temps.

Boost elbow update!

Well the verdict is in at the D C- New short block!, they beleive that there some broken rings from the results of the turbo exploding. two weeks down , but the payment keeps on ticking!:{

I'm taking the EZ out for my dealership visits, but leave the elbow in. I get up to 28-29PSI, but haven't set an overboost code.

Bet head or valves damaged before I'd guess rings tho they be also. The broken pieces go through the valves first if I'm not mistaken. They need to pull it abart(head off)and check for leakage at valve seats etc. Or they will be ordering parts one at a time. Been through that deal TOO many times. ;)

Gotsoot,

I put the boost elbow in the mail today... ... sorry I took so long but been busy at work and couldn't find the time to "sneak" into the post office. Should be there in a few days. Again, sorry it took so long:(

boost elbow update

You and I know that is what takes place , but try and tell that to the know it all service writer. . Itwould have been easier for everyone to just put in a long block and save a lot of time and aggravation . Truck will be out of service -going on three weeks!:--)

Usually it a tech that dosen't want to pull head until block comes in. To much stuff to keep up with for days waiting parts which I can understand. BUT more often then not the block etc.comes in,head gets pulled and the tech pops into service managers office and says GUESS WHAT. then the advisor finds out and calls you about the delay. I used to to a lip stand to dig some and try to get it all coming at once. I'm sure a head/valves woukd have to have higher up approval same as block. They may be ok. But metal passes through valves before it gets to pistons.
