I need a little help here guys. I have a Kelsey brake controller (I've had it for quite a while). I had it mounted pretty low towards the bottom of the dashboard and wasn't happy with the location - too hard to reach. So, I removed the ashtray (not needed) and moved the controller up there. I love the location but it kinda sticks out a little further than I want - maybe it's too big and I should get a smaller unit.

For those of you who installed yours in the ashtray space, what type of controller do you have? Can you post some pictures so I'll have an idea of hoe this really should look? I don't have pix of mine - sorry. We pull a 3 horse Trails West with a 10' LQ setup in case that matters.

Thanks in advance.

Kerry

Thanks Klenger.

How did you attach yours? I attached my bracket to the top of the ashtray housing. My problem is that in order to attach the controller to the bracket I had to have it stick out a little further than I wanted.

Mine mounts the same way but the controller ends up sticking out too far. I guess I need to try and make a bracket that will recess it a little more.

Thanks for the help though and Happy Holidays!

Just a question about your installation. I would have thought that with the cable-actuated brake control you would have to mount it more in line with the brake pedal. It looks like the cable must be pulling at quite an angle with the conroller mounted in the ash tray opening.

The angle isn't really determined by where the controller is mounted, but where the cable is clamped to the dash and where the other end of the cable is clamped to the brake pedel. I have an older version of the Jordan controller, and they spec is for 1" of cable travel for full brake pedel travel. The higher angle that I used compensates for the fact that the brake pedel travels more than 1". I understand that the newer Jordan controllers allow for more travel.

This picture shows how it is supposed to be installed.

The Jordan controller mounts with two screws that go right through the controller. I used those screws to attach to the ash tray bracket. Those same screws hold the bracket with the e-brake switch on it. Does that help.

Ken, where can a guy get a Jordan controller?? I thought I had the link to a source but can't find it:rolleyes:

Thanks

Thanks Ken, thats on my want list now. Looks like the perfect controller to use with an exhaust brake. Problem with the inertia style is they put on the trailer brakes when you slow down via the e-brake. Can overheat trailer brakes on long downhills.
