Hey all,

I was loading up for a trip and found that my trailer brakes do not work when I depress the brake pedal. They do work however when I slide the lever on the controller itself. The 40 amp trailer brake fuse in the fuse box under the hood is OK.

Can anyone tell me where to look for the problem.

Thanks

Arlan

Check the fuse marked "CHMSL". (Center high mounted stop light). That is the circuit that activates controller using the the factory harness when the brake pedal is pressed. I had that same problem on my '97.

Are you testing this will driving or sitting still? Many of the new type brake controllers are inertia activated, so you have to be moving before they actually apply brake pressure to the trailer brakes. The slide lever manually applies the trailer brakes in situations where you need them applied while not moving.

I am driving it. I think I should just put on another controller. What is a good one. The one I have on there is a Tekonsha Voyager XP

I have the Prodigy Controller and after having the Voyager I will never go back. The Prodigy is well worth the money. Search for Brake controllers here and you will find lots of threads on it. Here is a link for Camping World for the Prodigy. Good Luck
