Hi everybody,

Well, after about 1000 miles, I just got back from Best Buy with guys at work and noticed the red brake dust on the front passenger wheel (didn't check the rest) and was wondering if this is a normal thing? I know I've seen a post on this before, but since the search funciton is disabled until the new servers, I can't find it unless I do the manual search.

I took the truck home this weekend to my folks and was quite pleased with the performance. It runs/rides just great and the mileage was quite pleasing. I drove about 70 down to 60 - some of it was following trucks and RV's, letting them break the wind for me. I ended up getting from Gretna, NE to North Platte, NE (Flying J's) with 19. 2 miles per gallon, not computer, by hand.

From there I travelled 74 on the interstate another 40 miles and then 30 miles of 60 mph, with about 20 miles of town driving. I headed back home doing 60 to 75 as I did above and got 19. 6 mpg - to say the least, I'm very happy with the performance at all speeds.

Thanks, Michael

Don't know what year you've got, but that is REAL good mileage for a 24 valve.

That red brake pad dust is normal, you're using them up.

Consider installing an exhaust brake?

schu777 That is very good mpg's. Your sig. does not give your gears or trans. Keep an eye on those front pads.

I had more dust on the passenger's side too. I changed the stock pads at 24,000. Put on Carbon Met Pads from Sam Peterson at Brake & Air Supply in Washington. At that time (5/01), total cost was $43. 00 which included the caliper bushings and the grease. No more dust on my '99 3500.

The passenger wheel extra brake pad dust issue has been kicked around a bit before with no cause found yet as far as I know. Mine has done it since new. No pull, tracks very straight. I did notice at 20K miles the outside edge of the passenger side front tire wears faster than the left on mine in addition to the extra brake dust. I'm terrified to change the alignment after reading all the pull/wander posts...

Exhaust brake...

My gears are 3. 54 for those that are curious... guess I should add that to the sig.

Anyway, back to Exhaust brake... I'm planning on getting one, but for a while I was going to go with the Jacobs, but not for sure now which one to go with. Right now price is an issue and I've got many things to add to the truck, just have to decide which is more important than the others. Here is a list of what I want to do:

Fuel pressure - Pre & Post

Steps

Air horns

Bed Liner

Exhaust brake

EGT - Pre & Post

That's pretty much it for now, since the rest I would want to wait and see if I really want to go for it or not.
