Does anyone know why suddenly my brake light on the dash and its partner in crime, the ABS light would appear??? Happened late last week and although I followed the recommendation to re-set the rear brake system that is listed in the owner's manual, it still lights up and stays on each time I start the beast up. My brakes are at +/- 50 % on the front and about 75% on the rear. Its an 01 2500 LWB QC 4X4. Thanks!

Did you happen to spin the rear tires pretty good recently (i. e. been in the mud or some other slick surface)?? If so, it might just be the computer thinking that you have a problem with the rear wheel speed sensor.

If you cycle your key from off to on three times staying on the last time (off-on-off-on-off-on), you should get a list of the set codes in the odometer window. If you get a P0500, that's the code for the speed sensor.

abs light

90% of the time the light comes on for a "rear wheel speed sensor circuit" code. The sensor is located in the top of the rear axlehousing.

Thanks for the problem-solving. Now, it didn't come up with the code you thought it would. It came up with a "P PCU", "P doNE" and "-----". Any thoughts on this code and if you know, how much its gonna cost me... Thanks

Are the ABS and Brake lights still on? Typically, P PCU just means it's going to start displaying codes from the PCM. But if you didn't get a numeric code, then it looks like none are set.

If it was just a problem caused my spinning tires, then the lights should go out within 5-6 start cycles. If they are staying on, then you probably have a bad wheel speed sensor. Not sure how much they cost as I haven't replaced one yet, but someone here can probably chime in with a price.

rear wheel sensor ,its in the rear pumpkin, to tell if it bad start off real slow and see if the speed odomiter does not read until it going about 15 miles per hour ,then it will jump up real fast to the speed it going . dealer told me it was a common problem fix mine for under 40 bucks. real simple

Nope... Now what?.?.?

rbyrd,

Just went out and checked it yet again. Speedo works fine. Starts right off from 0. Still nothing (code-wise) comes up from the PCU or ECU. Its been this way since last Tuesday. I drive every day and it gets at least 4 starts a day. Lights are still on... Next suggestion please...

I'm almost tempted to just drive the darn thing to Sam and ask him to fix it!!! Just can't get the time off to drive home to have Sam fix it and upgrade my brakes, too. Not to mention $$$...

Sam-

Do you have any suggestions?. ?. ?
