There are 2 items which have occured prior to me noticing this problem;

1. I had gotten a soft pedal, so I bled the brakes.

2. It's gotten colder than a wiccan's mamm in a brass bra.

I was approaching an intersection where they have a camera, the other night and the yellow went up. I jammed the brakes, but not to the point of lockup. The Brake and ABS light came on, but went out before I let off the pedal.

I'm on a work trip right now and the same thing has happened several time today. It's still cold. Once, the lights came on and didn't go out. I opened the fluid reservoir and it was as full as I left it. There is no hesitation or pulsation on the pedal. There is also no problem with stopping.

Did I mess something up?

Had the same problem - with the "blinkin" lights they would come on during a hard - not panic stop. When I adjusted my rear brakes the problem went away. Hope this helps.

Tugboatphil,

The problem that you have is the proportioning valve is off center.

Many different factors could cause this. The most common is the rear shoes far out of adjustment. Also if you have a leaky wheel cyl. or caliper this could also cause the light to come on. First step is to look under the vehicle to see if there is any leaks. If not adjust the rear brakes. Drive a short distance then check them again if they were a long way out. After that bleed the entire system. Remember there is a bleeder nut on the ABS unit on the rear framerail left of the rear diff. This should solve your problem. This has happened on a few of the trucks that I have owned and is common if your truck sees a lot of muddy or dirty roads.
