if you like the way the controller works, then it's o. k.

personally, i like the way the old hydraulic brake controllers worked.
so my only option's was the brake smart or max brake. which work off the hydraulic pressure of the brake system.
so as you apply more brakes the trailer receives more power.

the electronic pendulum controllers, use the force of the vehicle slowing down to apply the trailer brakes.
so you only receive brake power to the trailer, when there is enough braking force sensed.

I agree with this and will be getting a MaxBrake when my Jordon gives up the ghost. From what I am reading the BrakeSmart is no longer available new. A lot of People use the Prodigy and happy with it so you maybe too.

I'm a Johnny Come Lately to this thread (and towing life)... ... .....

I bought and installed the PRODIGY in my 03 Q. C. Longbed 3500 (SRT) 6spd.

For now I'm only towing a bumper pull car trailer (10,000 GVW)... ... ...

Is the PRODIGY going to be "OK" or I do I need to now 2nd guess this purchase ??

Thanks,

I had planned on installing a Brakesmart in my truck when I bought it but it was when Brakesmart was going through all their financial problems and they weren't available anywhere. Waited three months then finally had to buy something so I got the Prodigy. While the technology isn't as good as the Brakesmart it has served me well since I installed it. We recently completed a 4600 mile trip around the southern US and Colorado Rockies and in combination with my PacBrake, we had **zero** issues. This also includes the time in Mississippi whenthe yahoo cut right in front of us and slammed on his brakes because he missed his exit. Truck and trailer pulled down straiight and true.

If and when the Prodigy dies I'll look at the Maxbrake.

We've sold and installed several of the Maxbrake units as well as the Brake Smart. We have the old version of the Brake Smart on the 04 & 05 we own and a Maxbrake on our newer trucks... (04. 5 & 08)

These units can be installed in under an hour... and if your careful you won't have to go back and bleed the brake system... Your installing a tee and transducer in the brake line, connecting your brake controller to the plug under the dash, and running 2 wires from under the hood to the controller...

The key here, is in every day driving, any brake controller works well... it's when your in a situation where you suddenly need to change your braking pressure... (read some fool pulls in front of you) that these controllers exceed expectation with the extra safety margin. .

I tried all the electric brake controllers with the last being the Prodigy, ran it about a month, it would engage the brakes and was fine pulling my tandem dual trailer empty, however loaded it was not fun through Okla. City and Dallas

one trip and I bought the Maxbrake and couldn't be happier, works great and very easy to adjust whether I'm pulling 25,000 lbs of hay & trailer or 3,000 lbs of ranch trailer & 1 horse

gave my son my prodigy to pull his boat

I'll vouch for the BrakeSmart. I have no experience with the MaxBrake yet, but I will soon. We'll install the MaxBrake on my son truck soon.

My son was sure happy to get the MaxBrake for Christmas. His face just lit up like a kid in a candy store.

Thanks Jim. george
