Rust Repair Question

Just a heads up here.

I currently have 445k miles on my 93 and discovered this yesterday when changing the oil. I don't know exactly how long the elbow has been broken (a couple of weeks) but I am sure it let SOME unfiltered air into the system. You might want to check your elbow if you are getting on up with the mileage. The 93 is different from the 89 and I really don't know which is better. I don't like the thought of running with unfiltered air.

I checked the motor support and it is the restaint type so the problem didn't come from motor movement. I am inclined to think it is just service/miles related.

To repair till I can get a new elbow, I trimed the end cuff from the elbow and cut/ground the ribs away at that end so I could use a screw type radiator hose clamp to tighten the 'new' end to the turbo. It seems fine and I may not buy a new elbow if it stays on.

just a thought but is there any chance the filter can be used in a "direct connection" situation here... . I've never tried it or seen it done but it makes me curious.

James.....

Just git yourself the ASA Modified intake dohickythingamajig and a reusable/lifetime aFe filter. It's the BOMB Baby!! :)

I saw a pic somewhere that showed an aftermarket filter stuck right on the turbo. I think you'd be suckin alot of really hot air though. Maybe no real difference once the hood is closed, I don't know.
