Any electricians in the house?

had a visitor in my garage

@Wiredawg, You didn't try and load Buc-ee up on the flat bed for a decoration at the homestead? :p Glad you had a nice lunch with the Misses! Enjoy and be careful with the summer heat that is upon us!

So Ya Hoot, I'm fine, thanks for being concerned. I'll always now think of you when I often visit Buc-ees, sadly. I pray for you too!

Maybe this will help bring you around... Buc-ees sells fresh fruit cups, salads, and has health food and drinks. It seems you did not find these when you visited. Maybe I can turn you around and make you a Buc-ees lover! Just maybe!

Cheers, Ron
Buc-ee's is probably the best place of it's type. Never seen so many fuel pumps in one place. Their BBQ looks amazing as does the jerky. All I'm saying is it's loaded with garbage food. They have the same bags of oversalted chips and god knows all the other snack bags... as you walk around the place you keep seeing the same products. It's the way it's marketed.... in your face. But you know what's funny? I love Cracker Jacks. They don't carry it and when I asked if they had it they didn't even know what cracker jacks was. I described it and they sent me over to the bags of caramel corn and pop corn. I like the cracker jacks with the peanuts.

I liked Cracker Jack too, except in later years there were fewer nuts. I like Fiddle Faddle where it's popcorn and nut clusters.

We used to stop at Stuckey, which was a car stop, clean bathrooms, and junk food travelers and kids like. The pecan pralines are wonderful.

Even though there is healthy food there, that's not what we're after when we go there, nor is it when we go out to eat. We tend to eat healthy at home.

I had a thought of mixing the caramel popcorn with either the caramel nuts or the spicy nuts... sweet and spicy might be good.

Somebody told one of the health food advocates, "You gonna look funny lying in that box with nothing the matter with you!"
At least I'll fit in it.
I'd rather die responsibly healthy than irresponsibility obese, screwing the healthcare system. I dread the day I need an electric cart at walmart.

Well I'm A Texan and I really LIKE Buc-ees! Finally made it to tge one in Luling today. Traffic was backed up onto I10 to get in.

I ran down to Rosharon last week, and stopped at the Madison Buc-ee's to fill up on both legs. Also tried a jerky flavor that I never saw before: Bohemian Garlic. If you like garlic, you'll love this. And for what it's worth, I'll put the healthiness of Buc-ee's junk food up against the junk food of Love's, Pilot, Petro or any other truck stop out there any day of the week. And I love Chester's Fried! The secret is to enjoy the food occasionally or when you travel, but don't live on it every day of your life. Basically, the same advice your parents gave you when you were a kid: Moderation in everything. If you ate home cooked brisket every day you wouldn't fare any better. And if Buc-ee's (or any other truck stop) sold nothing but health food they would go out of business. They fill a niche and provide a service, and do both incredibly well.

Move over Buc-ee's! Casey's is making a move, at least that's the way the article frames it. Casey's bought CEFCO, and is converting them all to Casey's stores. Almost 150 of these stores will be in Texas, stabbing at the heart of the Buc-ee's beast. So in terms of numbers, Casey's will have 2900 stores, with 170 in Texas. Buc-ee's has 50 stores with 35 of those in Texas. But is this really a challenge to the Buc-ee's juggernaut? I'm not so sure. Buc-ee's went all in with giant travel centers that include hundreds of fuel pumps, spotless restrooms and all the travel food you could want. Casey's is really still a small convenience store despite this purchase, though they do cook a good pizza and have good food. Most of the Casey's I've seen are in small towns or along state highways, so I have a hard time picturing them knocking Buc-ee's of their perch. If Casey's opens up a few 50,000 square foot stores with hundreds of fuel pumps, then Buc-ee's might need to go nuclear on them. It would be a fun cage match to watch, though:

Midwest-Based Casey's Opening 170 Stores In This Beloved Southern Gas Station's Territory

The one thing about Casey's is they are not competitive with their fuel prices, in fact they are usually higher than the convenience store across the street. I don't see them as a threat.

Ah, so they are kind of like the Pilot of convenience stores... I don't really see them as a threat, either. No matter how many stores they have, they still won't be able to reach the volume of business Buc-ee's has for their targeted market. But if Casey's starts building giant superstores and building them along the Interstates it would sure be a sign that they are fixin' to attack!

They just tore down and rebuilt an overpass going over I10 here in South Ms for the new bucees being built. Can’t help but be excited about it, until the newness of it wears off I suppose.

Don't worry. When the newness wears off you'll still be excited about the lower fuel prices, great beef jerky and spotless bathrooms. And if you like to ranch--I mean hunt deer you'll enjoy their prices on deer corn.

I've been going to and loving Buc-ees 20 years and it hasn't worn off. We love the food, I like the pickled qual eggs, and more. I was sad when they redid their soda dispensers and eliminated adding cherry and vanilla syrup to your drink.

Anyhoo, that's how it is for us.
