Speed things up A LOT!

I am also having problems with it remembering my login. When I first signed on this morning, I had to enter my name and password. Told it to remember me. Afer looking at the new posts, I clicked off and went to a different site. When I came back I had to sign on again, it didn't remember that I was here already.

Thanks Steve its working great now. Now I just wish the search page would start working, cant search Crankshaft sensor yet, says no matches

are all the color choices right? atlantic blue looks like a seafoam green/teal color, and graphite and molten red look identical... maybe it is my monitor, but when i go to the dodge website and check the colors, they seem to match better than the background color here... ?

also, what happened to the user control panel?

i guess no smilies allowed in signatures anymore eh? :confused:not working below :(

I took the colors straight from Dodge's site on the build sheet. The pictures of the trucks themselves have about 50 different colors in them (shading) - so which one is the actual color? If you go to the build sheet they have a series of color boxes to select the color that are all solid - that's where I picked the colors from.

The user control panel is under the Discussion Forums button - it's a pull down menu. All of the forum related buttons that were across the top are under that. There is also a pull over menu there that you can use to go directly to any specific forum.

I'll have to look into the smilies in signatures after I get some sleep. They are turned on in the control panel but they obviously aren't working.

I Use Mac OSX 10. 3 and Safari as a browser, also have DSL service.

Apporximately half the time when I open site, sign on, and then search or look for new posts if freezes my browser and does not even let me quit, need to use "force quit"/

Anyone else with Mac having problems with new software? I looked at your test application when you had it up but did not do much searching etc

seems to work ok when I use netscape.

Smilies are working in the signature line now.

akshadow, I'm running OSX 10. 3. 4 on a flat panel iMac, and I'm having some problems. Steve knows about them. I'm using Internet Explorer 5. 2

Unread Private mesg

when im searching for New posts this thing is flashing i have new messages. I always check them last anyway..... How can we turn the flasher off??? I liked it the way it was... Thanks... .

Reply Slower

some of the guy's were saying they think it's slower. I posted a reply and watched it go... i do beleave it's slower. . can we get rid of some of the pictures, seems they take up memory and thus slower??? tks

The flashing PM notice has been on the site for months now. We had users complaining regularly that they missed PM's. Since we put the flashing PM notice up we have had zero complaints on that and only 2 or 3 people have said they don't like the flashing notice versus probably 10-20 complaints a month that people missed pm's.

From my announcement at the top of the forum on the new software:

There is also a post cache that will take about a week to fill out which will increase performance as it builds.

The site will be somewhat slower loading because the pages have a lot more content on them. The graphics however are a VERY small part of that. This is from a post I put up on the test site:

The graphics are adding VERY little to the size of the page. I do take that into consideration. On the forum home page the new site has 27kb of graphics, the old page has 22kb of graphics - VERY little difference. 5kb takes 1. 4 seconds to load on a 28k connection - and it should load from the cache the majority of time. The entire forum home page on the old site (without the banner ad) is 133. 19Kb, the entire forum home page on the new site is 205. 9Kb. The majority of the difference is in the menus and additional features that are on the page. The javascript for the vbulletin parts of the menus are 30. 9kb of the difference. Not switching to the new software wasn't an option (details of why will be posted after the switch is made). The javascript for the TDR part of the menus (up at the top) is 11kb. Those menus should also load from your cache the majority of the time. I did the best I could to keep the size of the page down while still offering a good looking page. An extra 5kb for the graphics doesn't make much of a difference.

Steve Not so much a bug but a request

That ll' #ad
that appears in the #ad
area ... . Is there any way to make it larger as I know THAT is the one most majorly useful thingy known to man. The previous version had that "pulldown" style and it was larger (DANG ... I'm getting older)

TDR just went from a bombed CTD to a 6. 9 with a 20k lb trailer. I guess the board is no longer going to support Mac/Netscape combinations? I had to download IE just to reply to this post, I spent almost 15 minutes just trying to get this thread to load in netscape... Please tell me there is just a glitch somewhere that will be fixed in an update...

How about giving me some details of what happened in netscape? This is why I put up a test site with the new forum software on it and a big flashing message at the top of the forums asking people to test it and let me know if there were any problems before it went live. I also put a sticky notice at the top of every forum asking people to test it. I specifically asked for Mac users to test it because neither I nor anyone on the TDR staff has a Mac to test with - not one Mac user responded with any problems. akshadow reported on this post ( https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showpost.php?p=994436&postcount=26 ) that netscape was working good for him on Mac OSX 10. 3 . I need details on exactly what is happening if I have any hope of troubleshooting the problems you have.

Had one or two instances that I had to sign-in again, even though I never logged out.

Tried to edit my subscribed threads. Clicked on the boxes for the ones to be removed, selected "Delete subscription", and hit "Go". Nothing happened. Did I do it wrong?

Whats the status on staying logged on? Had to log on all 3 times today?

Thanks,

Clay

What browser are you using? I'm not having any trouble staying logged in and it seems most are not because I'd have a lot more complaints. Try to put the TDR site in as a trusted site so that your browser will accept cookies from us. In IE this is done under tools->Internet options->security .

Sounds like you did it right. How long did you wait? I've restarted the search engine rebuild which is loading the server down. There are going to be times of extremely slow performance until the search engine is finished rebuilding (approximately 1 week).

Got it! Thanks Steve. :D

Machine is a Mac G4 running MacOS 9. 2. 1 Tried Netscape 4. 8 (still the fastest version of netscape out there) and Netscape 6. Big problems...

1. VERY VERY slow

2. Pages load twice the width of my 1024x768 monitor, have to scroll over a full window width to read threads, usernames etc still show at left margin, but body of text is over a full page.

3. "Reply To" loads a new page with the thread in it, but no text box etc to actually make a reply.

4. drop down menus for navigation (the ones beneath the banner ad) seem to work when they want to on netscape, but in IE on my mac (explorer 5. 1) they don't work at all

5. While using IE is bearable, it too took a BIG slow down over the previous version of the software
