Speed things up A LOT!

Server Times Improving

I notice that the server times are improving. Oo.

The "Last Days Posts" screens are now about 7 seconds to load next page and the server search times are dropping to as little as 0. 07 seconds.

Individual thread load times are down to 21-22 seconds from 30+ seconds. Never did time it before.

Tried to edit my subscribed threads. Clicked on the boxes for the ones to be removed, selected "Delete subscription", and hit "Go". Nothing happened. Did I do it wrong?

This should be fixed now.

Still having to log in....

I'm pretty much resigned to having to log in from now on. I've tried all the suggestions I've seen..... lowered security setting, cleared all cookies and re-booted. Imac OX 10. 3.

Otherwise, I'm liking the new system.

Did you make sure to check the "remember me" box when you logged in after doing those things? I changed the default on that last night from checked to unchecked. So you have to manually check it in order for the site to set the cookie.

Had a new problem for me tonight. I was gone over the weekend and had 12pgs. I was going to go through. Wasn't able to read/see any pages past #6. Got a box that said "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. "

Steve I got a coupe od errors

Both hung then displayed

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /www/turbodieselregister.com/htdocs/forums/global.php on line 242

Is that because I had a blind return in a reply in a post?

That line of code has to do with polls and shouldn't run unless you had a poll in the post. Did you? If so, what did you have on the poll? Could you try doing that poll again and see if you can replicate the problem? Thanks

Accessing member only area problem

When I try to go to some posts in the Other forum or this one, I get the screen asking me to log on, I go back once or twice and reclick the link and it will sometimes let me through. I can't seem to get to page two of this thread though to see if anybody else is having this problem. Funny thing about it is that the screen tells me I am logged in, it just doesn't seem to work quite right.

On edit (sort of), when I tried posting this reply for the first time, I get the log in screen.....

Your system isn't saving cookies for some reason. This could be caused by several things:

1. If using IE set the TDR as a "trusted site", pull down the tools menu to internet options, click on security, click on trusted sites, click on sites, uncheck the "require https" check box, put www.turbodieselregister.com into the list, recheck the "require https" check box, then apply the changes. Try it.

In Netscape 7. 1 pull down the tools menu to cookie manager and unblock cookies from this site.

2. If that doesn't work it could be a corrupted cookie causing the problem - try clearing your cookies tools->internet options->clear cookies.

3. If that doesn't work check to see if you have any internet security software on your pc such as zone alarm, norton internet security suite, mcafee internet security, etc. They can block cookies or time them out, even some anti-virus software will do that.

I had that problem on my work PC, had to go in and turn cookies back on and temporarily turn off the firewall protection. Be sure you have JavaScript enabled also.

For you Mac guys having problems scroll down to the bottom of any of the forum screens and in the lower left change your style to "Mac test style". This is a temporary fix that seems to be working. The problem is with the pull down menus at the top of the screen. On the Mac test style I have replaced those pull down menus with the old style menus. That will work only on the forums though - the rest of the site still has the drop down menus. I have an email into the menu generation software company that I used to generate those menus to try to find a solution for the drop downs.

Looks like that may have been it. Cleared out the cookies, came back, logged in and all seems to be kosher now..... :D

next page is giving vBulletin "no search ......" error msg

In the waning hours of this evening, it is 9:57 PM here now, I have been getting errors when trying to get to the 2nd of the "Last days posts".

I assume the Search Engine is grinding through the last 1/4 of the database as the response rate for threads to appear has now exceeded 45 seconds.

I have an average experience of 10-15 percent of my thread requests to time out with no results displayed.

Hopefully, we don't have too much longer to wait on the Search Engine to finish its' job?

Any stats on this Steve, or is it just a wait until it's done type of thing?

Goodnight, see ya'll tomorrow.

We're on post #664,000 out of 900,000. The site was being crawled by a couple of the search engines tonight and when they do that it really hits the server hard because they are on high speed connections and request page after page. Google is hitting us right now with 56 bots crawling the site!

Steve, I had a problem this morning with login. I cleared my cookies last night before leaving the office. Came in this morning and had to logon the site as expected. I then had to sign on 3 more times before all was working normal. Every time I tried to do something it said I wasn't logged in and my name didn't show at the top of the page. It was in the "logged on" user list at the bottom of the page but not at the top of the page.

Other than this, the site has been working ok. Sure be glad when the downloads get done and the speed picks up. For us dial up folks, right now the speed is less than half of what it was with the old system.

Also want to say THANKS! I know you have been spending all your time tring to get the bugs worked out, saw the post where you were on line at 3AM in the morning. Man, don't you ever sleep? :)

Your page was probably loading from a cache at your office. Many servers cache pages to reduce the # of requests they have to serve. The next time that happens try holding down your shift key and clicking on request and you will most likely be logged in then. It's just because your server wasn't going back to the site to request the page - it was loading the page you were just at from the cache.

I hate computers!

I have a 12v just for this reason. My system will not "pull down" the options from forums, etc. It just says "error on page. " What is happening? I am functionally illiterate on these machines, so explain slowly! :D DK.
