New engine

Its time for bigger turbo & injectors on '06

Well it certainly flows more air that my truck will ever need. And I do intend to trim that pvc Y a little sorter with the band saw and paint it black. :) I think guys with twin turbos would want twin air filters. Why not? Oo.

Amsoil is making nanofiber drop-in filters to go in your factory airbox. Just shipped one off today. This is especially handy if you have one of those air sensors on your airbox and don't want to mess with it.

Now THAT one gets my attention!

Now I am interested. Lets hear how that goes and see some pics of that filter, please.

Alright, I stopped at Amsoil Headquarters and scoped out these new drop-in filters. I neglected to grab my digital camera, but I can say that this is no old-school Amsoil foam filter. They are the very same Donaldson Endurance Nanofiber technology blue filter media with rubber orange seals. They drop in your factory airbox, seal up nicely and filter with nanofiber technology so they filter better, flow better, and are reusable with no wet washing and NO OIL. Same as the cone filters, 15-20 psi of shop air is used to blow them clean, and drop them back in. They look great, and should be an awesome option for those guys retaining their stock airbox. If you'd like more info, PM me. Thanks guys!

I put mine on today and headed into town. I went to the local garage and got a piece of 4" exhaust that had an expanded end to slip over another 4" pipe. The first impression is that it is louder that my BHAF, not by much though, but really noticible when i get on it hard. Kind of sounds like when you would flip over the breather lid on a gasser. :-laf

I noticed that the egt did go up slower.

spool up was about the same

I didnt get a good reading at cruising speed (70) because people dont know that the slow lane is for slow people and the passing lane is me :-laf

all in all a great replacement for the bhaf (never tried the afe so dont know)

Great to hear that it works well for ya! Excellent!

Nifty idea using an exhaust pipe rather than PVC. Good call.

Could you possibly post some pics of that pipe setup?

Does anybody have any idea about how soon we can get some oil analysis results on these filters? i. e. --How much are you driving a day ;) I have the Amsoil oiled filter on right now, and it is nearing time to clean it. How much nicer it would be to fit up a new Donaldson!

I've owned those old Amsoil foam filters, and I think Amsoil switched to these new filters for good reason. I had one of those old, black, oiled foam Amsoil filters on my Ford Ranger, and although I never did oil analysis, I did find a dirty air intake hose after 10,000 miles. I scrapped the filter and went back to the stock-type paper ones that worked. I think these Donaldson Endurance ones are a huge improvement. Oil analysis would be good evidence though. I just drained and changed, so I'd have to wait a while before testing would be worth while.

Oo. i can tell you that with this new filter that i am able to run sub 12 second quarter miles  , the clam-on filter that is, the regular one, "nanofiber" has also made so pretty impressive #'s as well, i've sold hundreds---and not one complaint. :-laf

At the track last night I was running the same BHAF setup that I've had for two years. No big deal.

After a couple of passes I swapped in the Amsoil 4090... let me just say this... I may have to reinstall the silencer ring. When I tell you the turbo is loud with this filter, you have no idea.

On the other hand, EGTs are down by 50*.

What is the benefit of this filter?

I'm tired of all the hype with aftermarket products that are junk... I had a K&N filter on my '91 F-350 that had a Banks turbo. The rubber flange for the filter separated where it attached to the intake pipe, possibly due to vibration of the engine. It was only a year old. $60 to replace. $60 a year can buy a LOT of paper filters.

What performance benefit does this filter provide? And what is the TRUE durability expected to be?
