Hi guys, just need to vent, and hopefully some help. After weeks of part time gathering info, parts, a large bearing separator, finding a 13" disc, I final got my trans rebuilt. Installed rear main seal, farmed out my good flywheel to a machine shop for the pilot br upgrade, only to learn an employee pressed the bearing out the back of my flywheel !! I was trying to use all the TDR advice and upgrades and was very careful assembling trans so as to only tear the Dodge down once.
#1 getrag was quiet an worked pretty well, just wanted to inspect brs. Found brs OK. Surprise was Rev. OE sync brass was separated and paper thin ? Yet worked OK. I replaced 2,3,4, Rev. sync rings with after market. 3,4,R, being solid brass. Used orig shims, which made it snug, but no tighter than getrag #2 I just pulled apart with over 100K on rebuilt.
PROblem: while still on blocks, and only few secs at a time, I ease the clutch out and a rapping sound comes from cover. Remove cover and do same test with starter an see no problem or noise ? New oil had fair amount of brass for 2 min or less running. Forks already had normal wear so can't tell anything there. Belive I assembled it the way it was as I have before photo's.
One clue: this trans has lines on sync's going forward, while trans #2 has R-5 syn lines towards rear. Which one is right, or doe's it matter ? All new an used sync rings are loose fit except R brass ring which moves with a little pressure. Maybe this new ring is trying to wear like the old one, causing fork to knock ? Rather not detroy new brs pulling it down, until I know whats wrong. Sorry this is so long, 'down in the dumps Will '
