I suggest calling the nearest US Customs agent (Bellingham?) and asking. You'd be getting the correct information from the source.

On second thought, it might be wiser to contact someone at the US entry point that you propose to use (Blaine?).

Get the name and ID number of the person you talk to, in case there are differing opinions. Remember, all US customs agents have guns; some have attitudes.

If you are going to use the BC Ferries out of Tsawassen, give them a phone call to find out how much it will cost you to return from Vancouver island with your new trailer.

If you tell them you're going to be using the trailer to haul a tractor or farm produce you'll save a bundle. Ag equipment is exempt from duty.

Not sure of their business practices but a very nice product. I drive by them now and then. If you purchase up here they will hit you with an extra 7. 5% sales taxes and a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST). This tax is recoupable after your purchase, it may be doenat the time of purchase if using a credit card (I've heard). A couple of ways to get off the Island is linked below, I like the ferry out of Port Angeles WA. It tends to be a little less busy and no charge for over hieght but extra for length. BC Ferries are nice but can be a zoo at times and extra $ for height and length. Good Luck,

I have many friends that have purchased Canadian manufactured boats(Cougar Custom Boats), they come with trailers. They make it a part of the deal for the manufacturer to deliver the boat to the border and handle the paperwork, don't know about the duty, I believe that can be negotiated into the price.

Hope this helps,

Caleb

Should have added that I think with purchases such as this, you may require a customs broker to handle the paper work?
