for the total cost of parts for the conversion, It was a total of $72 and relatively easy. First you must remove the solenoid and bracket. Next, remove the arm which the solenoid pulls up and down, leaving a lever to go from front to back. Once done, mount up the cable, to the AFC housing (Closest spot) but leave enough room for travel. Attach small parts to shutoff lever in order to set the cable into the set screw. After this is done, its time to go fish the cable into the cab. for the time being, I mounted mine next to the hood latch lever, and used baling wire, till I can make a bracket and have it appear with a clean appearance. I will get pics for y'all when I get a chance. It is pretty neat, being able to take the keys out, set the alarm, all while the truck is running! If anyone elses fuel shutoff solenoid quits, I highly recommend this conversion. Its about an hour and a half job. not too bad!

All you have to do is go to the International dealership, tell them that you want the manual cable assembly for a DT466 with the P7100 pump on it, and the longest cable (3 ft) will fit it just right. . I will get the part #'s and post them on here, so it will make it lots easier. Till then, hang tight and think about it!! haha

Be careful taking your keys out while the truck is running. I dont know about these trucks, but on our fire apparatus, you need to kill the fuel first. With the engine running and the key off, would the alternator still be charging with no power being drawn because of the key off?

I could be way off base on this, but we were always told, fuel shutdown first, then switch off. I'm gonna put in a cable too if and when my solenoids go bad.

Waaaaahhhhhhhhh!

Wish this had been figured out when mine was dying! Oh well, keep us posted. I`m thinking this is the way to go in the future. Don.

That's how I shut down my Case tractor with the factory manual fuel control. Per the owner's manual, I do the inverse to start it. I crank it over to get the oil pumped up then move the manual control to the starting position.

I know there are owners who wonder about the oil pressure on startup due to the guage lag time. Not the same engine though. For one thing, the older Case diesel's have the oil filter inverted so it drains down.

Charlan, thanks for the info. I should have done this when my starter contacts caused my selenoid to go up in smoke.

I drove a school bus once that was governed at 35-if you turned off the key it would kill the road governor and free the engine to rev to the engine governed speed (which was 2600 RPM) and go a whopping 45 MPH. I was a substitute driver for that route-the kids told me about the feature :)

They did not all work that way-but you are right that can be an issue.

Get those pics!!

Man, that is the way to go!! Screw that damn solenoid!! Mine is about to go out, cuz the boot is all jacked up on it and I ain't payin' $400 for a new solenoid when i can rig up something manually. Did you just tape up the exposed junction where the solenoid plugged into??

Yeah, Chris, get those part #s and I am off to the International dealership to get one of those cables!! Thanks for this great idea, I always thought there was a better way to pull that lever up without that expensive POS solenoid. :D

The parts are as follows, per my receipt:

1 299399C1 Clamp $. 78

1 109420R2 Swivel $9. 39

1 324877C91 Cable $47. 52

1 371146C1 Knob $4. 78

1 436747 Screw $. 25

1 363423C1 Nut $2. 42

1 370782C1 Screw $1. 97

This is the whole list, of the entire cable assembly and parts needed. Y'all will love it when ya get it on!!!!!!!! PM me or post on here if y'all have more questions!!! WIll get pics uploaded ASAP

-Chris-

So those are all the part #s to give to the International Truck Parts dealer?? Is there a International website to get on so I can locate one locally??

Can't wait to see the pics, Chris!

No need to spend all that when any manual choke coversion kit from JCW or most cheap auto parts places will do the same thing and give you a knob marked "choke" (as in choke off the fuel).

You know, you're right I'm wrong. . I guess I should have looked into it more... Wait! I did!! then I figured it out ... Just have fun when the flimsy cable sticks like the throttle cable we have problems already, and when you go to push the knob back in, to turn the lever to allow fuel to flow, it sticks, making you open the hood to do it manually... I looked at these options as well. .

Also, with JC whitney, you get what you pay for. . why drive a nice truck with cheap made parts on it? I guess some people really dont care what goes on their truck. . I figure do it right the first time, and dont worry about having to fix it down the road! but to each their own. If it works for you, then best wishes. otherwise, it would have been cheaper to go the right way!

Wait!! Your not saying your International cable is sticking are you?? I just ordered those parts and had them price matched to your Texas International dealer, cuz out here in California everything is more expensive! But just wanted to make sure you weren't talking about your custom cable and problems with it, right?? Just tell me I didn't waste my $72.....

No, I think he is saying the cheap JCW cable will be sticking sooner than the International cable will be sticking.

right on GAmes... the IH parts are alot better built, and built specifically for the application which it is to be used, not ½ assing it to get by. Make sense?

What was the Kali price for all the parts????

I would however replace the boot before it gets too much crap in there. It is likely that it will last a long time yet as long as it stays clean.

edit: I see you already ordered the parts to replace the solenoid. If you don't have a home for your old solenoid you can send it my way :)

"why drive a nice truck with cheap made parts on it?"

LoL! Did I hear that right? This little modification wasn't to avoid the cost of fixing the truck by buying the solenoid it needs?

As long as you want to ghetto-trick out your truck why spend more than you need to?

But I didn't realize that you'd already tried the J. C. Whitney way, charlan, you never mentioned that..... I should have known but didn't. Forgive my trying to help you more cheaply repair your ... ... . truck, eh?

The price was higher at two different places. I haven't ordered the parts yet, just checked into them and this one place in Bakersfield would match the prices from your Texas International dealer. One other place I called had prices that were just about $20 more just for the cable. And the other parts like the screws and swivel were like at least $1-5 more!! Crazy price differences but everything is more expensive out here.

I'm all for doing stuff as cheap as possible while still doing it RIGHT...

with that said, those manual choke cables are too weak for this IMHO. I'd stick w/ a PTO cable designed for the job.
