I'm laughing. I agree with you.

I lived in San Diego in 1977-1979 and again from 1985-1988. I retired from the Navy there in 1987. We bought a nice home in 1985 which was affordable then but after observing the things I didn't like and the trends I decided I didn't want any part of it and packed up.

We still enjoy visiting SD. It is a beautiful and interesting city but you don't have to live there to enjoy it.

My advice: If you own a home sell it and pick another place you want to live. The value of your home is probably enough to buy a bigger, nicer, newer home in almost any other city and fund your retirement as well.

CA will get worse!

I moved to Nevada, bought a cleaner truck, and enjoy both. Calif is doing these tiers for diesel emissions faster than Feds, but this is where we are headed nationwide.

Do any of the government, state or federal, boneheads realize that vehicle emissions are about 20%(IIRC) of the pollution they are so worried about? Why don't they worry about the 80% instead of making motor vehicles their designated whipping boy. What a bunch of eco-nazi bullshyt!

at least it says it excludes non commercial privately owned vehicles, not sure they can requier a private owner to retro crap, maybe the dumb ones till a good shark lawyer got after it

And WHERE do you think the commercial truckers will go to recover $$$ they must pay for forced upgrades, HMmmmmmmm? ;)

YUP, you guessed it - INCREASE the price they charge for hauling stuff - and the "NON-commercial" customer (you and I!) ends up paying the bill!

It's VERY hard to get thru to the "common man" that ANYTHING done to increase costs - or raise taxes - upon the richer classes simply gets passed on, back to the lower class consumers, and WE end up paying those increases FOR them - the rich folks didn't get that way by being STUPID!

Much of what is seen in tighter controls, higher taxes, and reduced freedoms, comes at the hands of Liberal politicians and the special interest groups who control THEM - look closely at states like California, New York - and yes, the state *I* moved to to get away from California, see what they have done to their citizens - see if you like what you see - and if you DO, just vote in more Liberals...

I had heard on another forum this was going to include off-road equipment alos, and suppose able it had to be repowered with a newer engine, sold for scrap, or leave the US.

What I personally like is that all commercial vehicles operating in the state, everthing going in and out of there is going to be surcharged up the wazoo now. Thats a great way to increase commerce. I wounder how long it will take to see a lot of industry not supporting the movie, tv etc to move out of there?

I see two things happening here. One, lawsuits out the gazoo. The local government is going to force someone to sell a vehicle and buy a brand new one. Sounds like a violation of constitutional rights and there is no way they can use the Emanate Domain clause. Second and something a lot of people would enjoy, especially myself, companies will stop making things for California. Then they will just have to do without all those lovely things that the politicians deem inappropriate. Would dearly love to see that happen. Ah, what a nice pipe dream.

Gary,

Gosh, I agree with you. Something must be wrong with me or with you today.

One of the things I like best about the state of California is there are highways leading out of it. If I lived there now I'd be looking at my map and planning my route. The looney tune socialists that occupy the legislature there won't stop until all commercial business activity in the entire state is brought to its knees. I wonder who they think will pay the taxes to keep the state anywhere close to afloat financially when all the jobs and all the productive citizens have left?

:-laf actually I agree as well! in fact I doubt you'll find many on here that don't. I'm glad emissions is being adressed, but there are far better ways then to drop the burden on the working stiffs that support the economy, a biofuel mix is much easier and MORE effective as no one could avoid or fail to maintain that. $. 02.

California Gold?

I agree with Gary too! Fortunately,I live in a quiet area eight minutes from La Jolla Shores and still surf at 58. I couldn't imagine living away from the coast, but long for the uncrowded days of my youth here. Due to the climate and lax welfare rules,we're a mecca for every underachieving native born person and more than our share of illegal arrivals. Our governor has done a 180* flip in philosophy since his election by listening to his wife and bleeding heart liberals. My favorote show anymore is "California Gold w/Huell Howser". This man still manages to find the pioneer spirit of my ancestors in outlying locales. Well time to step down from my soapbox. The highlight of my day was spotting diesel for $2. 39 at the Arco on Old Town and I-5. Shhh, don't tell anybody, they'll jack it up! I need to get a life.

I don't know how registrations go in Cali, but here in NY most pickups are "commercial". I have commercial plates on my 1500. I could register it "passenger" but then I couldn't haul any thing!

I guess what I'm trying to say is diesel pickup owners are going to suffer too! :{

and just wait until Hillary gets into the White House...

If Elected... For Clinton, Government as Economic Prod

Same way here in Cali. If you put anything inside the bed... it is commercial.

I pay commerical dues on every truck I own... and it hurts especially the 3500's.

I have a great job here in California which pays very well. I don't know about leaving yet, but I do own vacation property in Lake Havasu City, Arizona (which may become home if things don't change)

#@$%! I need a beer

I have long believed that the "Holy Grail" of the EPA is a legal ability to force anyone and everyone to stop driving older vehicles.

They would start by mandating a retrofit that is either physically or economically impossible. Later, they transition into simply refusing to register vehicles manufactured prior to a certain date.

After all these years I guess it's finally coming true.

Diesel Progress runs regular articles about the coming problems retrofitting older off-highway equipment for California.

Eventually, the disease will spread to the rest of the union. Alas. :(

My folks sold out in Mexifornia and moved to Lake Havasu great place in the spring and winter , sucked in the summer unless you "tie one on all day" , they moved back because cost of living went up so much there and property values went down so much, couldn't give their house away.

Ya we have our problems here but you can't beat the climate.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. We just got here from Idaho (-4f and 24" snow) to visit our daughter. I've been in shorts every day and working on a tan.

Of course... I get to leave when I'm ready... .
