Competition Truck/Tractor Pulling on TV

Off Roading 44's and Gears????????

A friend of mine has a 5. 9 12 valve (out of a truck) converted to alcohol in his pulling tractor. He had problems with head bolts breaking, so he had it studded. I have always been told (with any engine) its a good idea to replace the head bolts when you pull the head. Does the same apply to studs?

You can reuse both.

Just make sure that the bolts are in spec. and have not stretched too much.

The studs, I would call the manufacturer and ask their opinion.

I asked Van the same question about my studds,he said reuse them. Jtisdale,id look into the studds first, maybe call Van haisley, keeing the head on the Cummins inst easy at hi boost levels.

I never reuse head bolts. Head studs can be reused. They dont stretch like head bolts.

This is good info, I'd say e-use the studs also as your just clamping down with them not turning the threads.

I have reused studs many times on engines and equipment. I hope I don't have to find out on my dodge. My truck does not make enough hp to warrant studs. I have cleaned many a stud for turbine shells. lol Jim
