I've had my '96 Club Cab 2500 4x4 since 1997 and it is a great truck...comfortable, reliable, good looking, Goerend transmission, TST plate, etc. Planned on keeping it forever. Now to my problem I need to solve.

My 75 year old dad has a '90 W250 LE Cummins sitting in his garage with 54,000 miles on it that he bought new that he wants to give to me. The truck is like new, but it is what it is... rough riding and crude. It is bone stock with the exception of a Kelderman air ride system, but it still is a rough rider, 160HP, 3. 07 gears etc. But it is cool and has sentimental value too.

I know that no one can make my decision, but has anyone here successfully gone from 1st gen to 2nd gen and then back to 1st gen? Having both trucks is not an option. I've got too much junk already and if I push it, I'll have to buy my wife something.

Looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

AWWWWWWWW what the heck Buy the wife sometin and the keep both trucks . you know the saying If Momma Ain't Happy Ain't Nobody Happy :)

Thats what i would do, but if you decide to get it and sell the 96 let me know i am looking for a truck like that and you dodnt live to far away from me. Good luck.

If it was third generation to second, it might be a bit more difficult of a question, aside from the noise issue. But, second to first generation, depending on what you do with your truck, I'd sell your Dad's truck before I'd sell the 97. My Dad has an 87 and a 94, both gassers on the farm. The 94 is every bit as comfortable as my 05, but the old 87, well, like you said, it is what it is. What it mostly is, is a field truck. He put a tongue on the front, so he could tow it to the field, and drive it back to get the next piece of equipment.

If you decide to keep your second gen I would be interested in buying the Old truck if you decide to sell... You can PM me.

Thanks

I say keep it in the family for sure. Is there a grandson or someone else that he can give it to? I loved my 93, was really nice looking with 12. 00x16. 5 wheels and tires and Warn front bumper, but when I traded it for the 2001. 5, the difference in ride and braking was night and day. SNOKING

I'd keep it if for nothing else, the sentimental value. You'll probably kick yourself in the butt years down the road for not taking it or selling it. Besides, could make a nice little hot rod:)

If the 90 is a club cab with a manual trans, I'd be interested... I'm not happy with my 95/96 at all right now... Unfortunatley, everything I feared about buying a newer truck is starting to come true... I cannot believe how cheaply Dodge made parts of this truck... what a piece of crap...

how can you not keep it if its a gift. now this gift is to be charished and only driven on sundays so you need the 96 for a daily driver. the wife will just have to learn to live with 2 trucks. which one has more miles on it? if oyu know both trucks pretty well you can tell which one is gonna need some money and work first. if money is the issue, keep the cheaper, lower milage, i better shape one. if the ride is more important, choose accordingly. maybe drive the 1st gen around for a week or so and see what you think then.

OK. I'm gonna figure out a way to keep them both. Bought my wife a Dr. Laura book to read as a start. We'll see how it turns out!

Glad you are going to keep them both. I think the old school 1st gens are sweet but to quote my buddy, "they ride like a brick. " Who cares, they are SOLID and easier to work on. Our ranch '93 has almost 450K miles and a vast majority of that is heavy haulin or off road harrowing etc...

Fred - you ever think of getting rid of that sweet 93 please let me know
