Has anyone used this service? Is it worth it? or is it another scam that doesn't tell you anything. I'm looking at 3 used 2500s with low miles- and the prices that are almost too good to be true...

I used it to buy my truck and it gave me quite a bit of info. Another thing you can do is take the VIN numbers to a dealership and have them run the #'s. You can get history of how what's been done to the truck at the dealer.

Carfax reports do not tell you damage that may have not been turned in and fixed out of pocket by the previous owner. I recommend you look the whole truck over with your own eyes and make sure everything looks straight and original.

Carfax has the option of unlimited reports for a month for a little over 20 bucks. Not a bad option if you are looking at multiple trucks. I've run several reports in the past and all appear to be accurate. Some of the reports come with a partial maintainance history as well depending on where the vehicles were serviced.

Remember not ALL insurance companies (Aetna and statefarm ??) submit or make records available to third party information databases. Plus there is a six month layover from the DMV as well when the vin number is "consolidated" so all information is forced current. Carfax is THE #1 source for the most up to date available information though and they are spot on most of the time. A close friend is a district leader for progressive and he had given me the skinny so I could pass it on to you. He as a "gotta see it for myself" kinda guy ran a carfax against 4 of his insureds that had claims within the past 4-6 months and all came back reported respectfully. Of course the FREE way is to call your insurance carrier and have THEM run the vin as info has to be available for 1 year (statute) so that two or more insurance providers can keep tabs on a multi insured claim.
