185,000 miles and just installed lift pump #5. However, that means I am out of OEM lift pumps and I no longer have a spare. Can I still get them from Cummins? I remember reading something about no more stock anywhere.

Anyone have any info?

Thanks,

Lift pump info

I had just ordered the lift pump relocation kit from Genos and in the flier it said sonething about limited availability of the OEM pump.

I will visit NAPA tomorrow.

Thanks,

Ken

The money you have spent on OEM LPs would have paid for a FASS or other better system.

I'd bite the bullet and upgrade and not have to worry about that again.

Doesn't Cummins still sell the Carter pump? I've got three spares so I should be good for another 10K miles or so!!!!

I've always bought mine from Cummins. The last time around, they had some special firetruck replacement program (you just had to say it was for your firetruck :-laf). The Carter even came with a low-pressure indicator lamp. They were only $60 so we stocked up.

Why waste your money and time on a Carter lift pump. These pumps are marjinal, HIGHLY unreliable, and JUNK at best in my opinion.

If you want an OEM style stock lift pump that will bolt right in place of the OEM Carter lift pump in the OEM location or on the frame, buy the Airtex E7153 lift pump. It is a FAR better pump and as long as you keep the engine STOCK, it will work well. I STRONGLY recommend a fuel pressure gauge to monitor pressure of the pump and for a restricted fuel filter.

I installed this pump on my wife's 2001. 5 truck and it has worked well for almost 2 years now. I origninally installed it in the OEM location on the side of the engine but later moved it to the frame when a Vulcan Big Line Kit was installed.

Static pressure on these pumps runs about 20 psi give or take and normal operation is between 14 - 18 psi. When the fuel pressure drops below 14 psi, that is a heads up for me to replace the fuel filter which has always returned the fuel pressure to the normal range.

I know, you have heard it before but the Air Dog or FASS is the best solution especially if you make any mods to the engine. Good luck!
