I ordered the nelson 51" muffler but I still not sure about the cat, I did search alot but still have doubts.

Is the cat that much of a restriction?

Is it too loud without it? Loud as to turn the radio up alot to cover it?

Is there any muffler or resonator that I can put in the cat's place so it can flow better without to much noise?

The truck is my daily driver and I tow at least once every 2 months.

I don't mind a little more noise but not to the point where I have to turn the radio all the way to cover it.

Thanks in advance.

Since you are installing a muffler, the cat can run away. It is noisier for straight pipe, but you will be ok. The cat is a big restriction, my egt's went down and the turbo spools up quicker.

Check out "Rokktech" Silent Might muffler. Leave the cat on, unless you want to sound like a ricer. :p Your stock muffler is the source of most of your back pressure. ;) Or find out for yourself. :-laf

My cat fell off last week. The stock muffler is gone, replaced with a MBRP muffler. I like the sound, I hooked up the trailer and took it for a drive. Sounds like a real truck now, the wife did not think it was to loud. Seems like the EGT temps went down a 150 or 200 degrees. Next will be an AFE stage one filter, to replace the Afe filter in the stock box.

If your cat falls of make sure you keep it around if you do not like the sound, or it is needed for other reasons. :-laf

Thanks for all the replies, I've decided to keep the cat for a while, and then when the truck gets the tst I'm gonna loose it or replace it with an aeroturbine.

Thanks again.

I installed an MBRP dual 4" stainless system on my 04. 5 dually, it kept the factory cat in place. Sounded nice and deep, I don't think I'd want it any louder than that.

Here are some pics of that system:

My EGT's still went down with this system, about ~100 deg avg.
