Comp version of Catcher...

When talking about a comp version, I see it as there would be two different approaches. One, you could program the Catcher to offer the performance of both the current catcher and the comp box. Two, you could program the Catcher to be optimized for use with a comp box. I would prefer number two. I realize that Edge could also offer a version of the comp box that is optimized for the catcher, but that would not help all of us that already own the comp box.

Things I like about the Edge Comp box:

Adjustability, both the 1-5 and the sublevels

Being able to turn it off, and really detune the pickup under certain conditions.

As far as what should be changed, that is a tougher question. Even though the comp boxes are very similar from pickup to pickup, everything else is totally different (eg. injectors, turbos, and how the pickup's are used). From my personal perspective, I would not like to see anymore advance then what the comp box, combined with the stock ECM supplies. At least not above 1,700 rpm. Below that, whatever works out to give the best throttle response. Everyone seems to want to be able to fuel above 3400, and I would like that as well, but I'm not sure that is possible, from the ECM. I use my pickup as a daily driver, I sometimes town a light travel trailer, and drag race on weekends. I have made over 180 1/4 mile passes this year, so that is the performance area I am concerned about. I live at 4600' altitude, so quick spool up with minimal smoke is also a concern.

I hope this information helps...

Do get me wrong guys, the catcher is an AWSOME product. I just wish there was a version for trucks which also have a comp. Since the don't seem to work well together.

Now for suggestions. Wile cruising around town and down the highway it will act just like the original catcher (comp possibly off even) since most people prefer the catcher over the Edge EZ, or comp level 1. But when I want to play it will be different. It will have the lightning fast throttle response, and quicker spooling like the catcher but will also let the comp give the truck more fuel and timing.

Im not looking for any more HP just the same HP I have with my Comp Box + the drive ability, and quickness of the catcher. Comp 5X5 + catcher = :D :D

Do that and I will definitely buy one :)

hmm how about a version that runs to 4000 RPM that works with a "fuel only" fueling box like the Blue Chip FMS or Power Max, Big Friggin Injectors, and big friggin twins!

My 490 HP is starting to feel a little "Sickly"

Excuse me for not going back and reading the 966 posts... ... . but, is there a boost fooler programmed in with the CaTCHER? Would I run just stock boost or does Marco's programming eliminate the need for a boost fooler? Thanks Don

Who says the CaTCHER doesn't work with a comp? What is the basis for this statement? Is this opinion only based on the dyno run by Opie?

Easy Cliff, it ain't gonna work on a first gen. But are you saying that IF Marco could do what you have asked above, you would keep your 2nd Gen???

There's others out there, and not just on the TDR.....

Marco also recognizes that there is a problem when the catcher and comp are combined.

I apologize, but I guess someone will have to refresh my memory. Dan, you say that Marco even says there is a "problem" with running the CaTCHER with an Edge Comp box. Exactly what did he say? I have run my best ET's and Trap Speed with the CaTCHER. I don't seem to have a "problem". Is the "problem" only confined to HO engines?

Ol Blue,

I [/B]THINK the main reason the CaTCHER does not work so great with the Drag comp is the timing. Probably the timing from the CaTCHER + the timing form the Comp is too much.

Well, I could mod the timing in the CaTCHER @ 2000Rpm and let's say 50% load back to original values. That way the Comp should be happy...

Question for Marco

Marco, the combination of perhaps to much timing, is that only applicable to the ETH or does it also affect the ETC?

I don't know!

That's the reason I'm bothering the whole web with that stuff.

If you ask me, my drag comp has NO problems with the CaTCHER...

I guess we'll see as more people chime in.

Slowwwww.. .

I do not recognize anything! What I'm trying to do is simply to understand IF and WHERE a problem does exist. That's different.

I'm taking the report(s) from customers and am trying to understand.

Which trucks do exhibit the incompatibility?

Is it the truck that has problems or is it the CaTCHER?

( You can't beleive how many times I've worked on SW's trying to solve a problem, @ the end the truck had problems... )

Which solution?

Marco

There has to be others out ther that can report on this. Comp/Catcher combo?????

How does your truck run with the combo, espically on 5X5

I dyno'd 325 on injectors only, and my HP only went up from there...

My Mad ECM worked AWESOME with a COMP.

I decided to get a little crazy, and pulled my SuperChips tuner out from behind my seat, popped it into the OBDII port, and downloaded away. After a couple errors, and having to reset the ECM, it downloaded succesfully. I gained ANOTHER 40RWHP over the ECM, and COMP.

The Bottom end response is INSANE. It feels more responsive than a '97 12V with a 4K GSK, no AFC, and a 10 plate. The motor will actually jump and bounce against it's motor mounts when you "tap" the throttle from idle to 1/8 throttle.

Only downside is, the bottom end is screwed up. The truck shakes, jerks, and shutters below 1,100RPM unless you are more than 50% throttle.

I don't know exactly how the superchips tuner works. I don't know if it actually reads the current ECM tuning, and then Multiplies values by (x), or if it just uploads a SuperChip tuned program.

All I know is it worked,, it picked up even more throttle response, and feels alot stronger than a SuperChips tuner on a stock ECM.

I dyno'd 446 with the COMP, SuperChips, ECM, and a stock turbo (and Mach 4. 8's)
