Shakedown for Ram and 5er!

Fiberglass top on a used CC horse trailer, whatta you'all think?

As I was mounting my new Tekonsha Sentinal brake controller to the dash last night, I read in the instructions:

"Do not mount or activate RF generating items (cell phones, two way radios) near (less than 12") the brake control. "

My problem is the spot I was thinking about mounting the CB to; there would only be about 6" from the top of the CB to the brake controller.

I got to thinking about it (probably a big mistake), and couldn't see why this would be a problem. Was kind of wishing again that I could've just used the old hydraulic one in our Suburban.

Anyway, has anyone experienced any problems from this? I don't really plan on using the brake controller or the CB that much, unfortunatly the times when I would use them would be the same.

Pete,
On my 97 3500 CC, auto, I used to own, I had a Tekonsha Commander Brake controller and the cell phone would light up the signal lights on the brake controller for a second or two when the cell phone went from no service back to service. The cell phone I had at the time was an analog type "bag phone" and I carried it on the transmission hump just below the brake controller. The trailer brakes were unaffected.

pcorssmit,

My sentinal is mounted 12" directly to the left of the CB & I've never seen it do anything wierd or had any problems of any kind. Rick

I have a 144Mhz (amateur 2M) radio mounted next to my Kelesy controler. My first controler had no problems with the radio, then it quit working (another problem). The free replacment has problems with the radio. When I transmit, the RV brakes go away!

Thanks guys, maybe I'll try it and see what happens. There's a good chance that I won't get time to put it in before this trip anyways, unless I find an antenae mount I like without too much looking, was thinking about something in the stakepocket. Even if I do get an antenae in, the CB may be laying on the floor.

Pete, Radio Shack sells a filter for your CB that should eleviate the communication between the two devices,I personally have never used them so I cant vow for their performance, just a thought, Kevin
