The model he has is the Cobra 75 WX ST. I had one before, and they are VERY hard to hear. I will admit that I'm a little hard of hearing, but they are extremely hard to understand, even in our '99 Cherokee it was difficult to hear, and it was much quieter than our CTD.

I mounted an external speaker along side of, and identical to, my cell phone speaker in between the middle seat and the floor console of my six speed. My hearing is pretty lousy and I now have no problem hearing the cb. It is a pretty neat looking install, both speakers (Motorola) don't take up much room.

I think a speaker has more mounting options than a full size radio. A speaker could really be mounted anywhere. There are so many sizes shapes, etc. You don't need to see it, reach it, etc.

I agree. I put my speakers together right in front of the middle seat, but you could certainly put it any where, under the dash or seat to name a couple of spots. The center seat is pretty much used for and arm rest or storage, I will probably never use it for a passenger, and I could "make do" even then. I think my set up looks best with the six speed.

Yup, that is the one. Not sure in your area, maybe Bi-Mart of GI Joes? Mine came from a commercial radio dealer/installer so there must be one in Bend

My hearing is not what it used to be but don't have much trouble hearing it. Just gotta turn it up a little more is all! :D

Where is everyone running the CB antenna cable at? How long of cable do I need to buy? I don't want to run it through the door if I can help it.

I live near Bloomington, IN and I was hoping to find someone near me to tune in my CB. But I haven't had any luck so far. My CB's in my Jeeps have worked great, but I think I just got lucky. I want the one in my truck to last and be a good one:)

I'm still not sure where to mount it. I've looked at everyone's mounts and just can't decide. I picked up a used Radio Shack one about two years ago. It is in like new condition and was about $120+ new I think.

Thanks,

Dave

I ran mine out through the dash (rubber wiring harness grommet) into the engine conpartment and then down under the cab to the back of the cab/bed and up through the front stake home. I needed all 18' to get it there with a little to spare.

I have a Wilson roof mount on both trucks. On the 03, the dome light comes out real easily so I drilled tru the roof just rearward of it and snaked the wire over to the passenger A pillar. Then it goes under the dash to the center console. (hooked up to the hidden end of my Cobra 75.

I like that the reception is awesome, and unlike a magnetic mount, I have no wires outside. When I want it off, I just unscrew the whip and stash it away. It stands very tall, but seems to be very durable.

I mounted a Wilson 5000 Roof mount antenna (like bighammer), however I run the coax down the door post between the front and rear doors on the passengers side, under the seat to the CB.

I made a mount which sounds similar to Intense Marine. I still have access to the handle to open the seat storage. I had to use an external speaker with this mount.

This mount is for a 3rd Gen with an Auto Trans! I have been thinking about marketing them. I would need to build at least 20 at a time to keep the cost down.

Here is a link so you can see what it looks like:

Big Bob,

Looked at your picture. How is access to the storage area under the bottom center seat cushion with the CB installed?

lawdog1,

The handle is easy to access. My big hands slide between the mount and the seat. I do have to adjust the angle just a bit so when you lower the lid of the seat, back down the handle doesn't hit the CB. I have to push the mount forward toward the dash just a little so the handle clears when closing. No big deal, just need to adjust the angle.

I don't know if you look at all of the CB mount pictures, If you did, you should see where there is a space on the left of where my Radio is mounted for an Amp, external speaker or cel phone mount, this was something I wanted. On the one's I market, I'm thinking about eliminating that extra space and moving the radio to the left. That way it would just hold the radio.

Hope this helps.

I also had a hard time finding a way to mount the CB's in both my 02 & 03. What I finally ended up with is a cellular phone mount that comes in 6,9 & 12". The mount has a square mounting plate on both ends and a tube in the various lenghts between them. I screwed the bottom plate to the passenger side of the floor console and the radio is mounted to the upper plate. This gives me the flexability to move the radio around. I also have the amps tie wrapped to the radios. The 02 has a connex 4400HP with a 550 palomar amp and it stays in place just fine. The 03 has a cobra 25 with a silver streak 250 amp attached and stays in place. I will try to attach pics later to show the mounting bracket set ups on both.
