Anyone here that reloads, have any issues with CCI 41 primers. I don't mean with how they ignite the charge, I haven't gotten to that yet. I mean I had all kinds of issues seating them. I tried to use a had priming tool but they wouldn't seat right. I smashed a couple off center. I changed over to the Rock Chucker and still had some that looked like they went in at an angle then finally flattened out. I am reloading 300 AAC Blackout from converted 223/556 brass. The brass I am processing is for the second firing after conversion. I hand reamed the primer pockets when I decapped them. I started to reream each round before seating them and still had some difficulty. I don't ever remember any of this with Federal primers reloading for 7mm Mag. I even tried to remember any issues I had when reloading the 9mm (Federal small pistol). I just can't recall this much effort to prime brass. The only variable I am not experienced with would be the primer crimp. I may need to be more aggressive with the pocket reamer.

what brand military brass. some military brands have tough or lousy crimps that are hard to remove. IMO I don't like reaming. It opens up the top of the pocket, and the crimp can be lower. A crimp cutter is 20 bucks. RCBS makes a swager for the press for 35. I like swaging the most you get to keep all the brass. You could also try a pocket resizer, but getting aggressive with a reamer could ruin the brass. You could do a trial run with new 300 blk brass. if there are no priming issues, its definitely the crimp. Ive never had a problem seating CCIs except for some stubborn military cases. PS I thought the 300 blk was a proprietary cartridge.

I've always had issues with CCI primers seating correctly. They will seat correctly but have always taken considerably more pressure to seat them. I'll only use them in the single stage press and keep away from them in the progressive.
Mine were all pistol, .357 and .44 with various brass, no military of course...

CCI primers always seemed to have a harder cup than Federal. I have always had to use more force to seat a CCI than any others. This seems to be supported by the fact that I have a 357 AutoMag that will commonly pierce federal primers but has never pierced a CCI (yes they are a little hot). These cases are made from 7.62 NATO military brass and still take extra effort to prime even after preping the pockets.
I would not ream the primer pockets instead buy a swagging die from RCBS since it not only removes the crimp but will also radius the edge of the pocket.

The 300 AAC Blackout is a SAAMI cartridge now so it is not proprietary. The 300 Whisper is registered and proprietary. Most reloaders use converted .223/5.56 brass. And, yes a lot of my brass is converted 5.56 military brass.
I have been using the single stage also to prime the brass.
I was prepping some Win .223 bass this weekend and had similar issues with a different primer (Rem 7 1/2). I will buy a primer swaging die.

I think you guys got it figured out...... Depends on the manufacturer, most .300 brass is swaged correctly, but in this current market, there is a lot of junk floating around. Most likely, the brass it was made from not correctly swaged, or the die was worn excessively.

I've had a LOT of problems with CCI. I've almost completely quit them. They burned the bolt in my .50, and blown out several times in other rifles. Seating is inconsistent from lot to lot, as they are never consistent with their cup hardness. I've also found their burn temps to be varied greatly, as well. When lot numbers change, you usually have to check your load and make sure it still will work in a particular rifle.....
