The Two items that you mentioned SHOULD BE DONE!!
Selling your gun to Joe Blow without any kind of check is NUTS how do criminals get guns? Well that sounds to me like a very good way.
Loaning a gun to someone should be wrong, if he commits a crime you should be held accountable right along with him for lending your piece. Just like the unfortunate Kids that find daddy's gun and either takes it to school or shoots himself with it the Registered owner should be accountable.
I cant find anything wrong with being responsible with guns.
Well, I agree and disagree.
The blanket statements are what I disagree with. Why?
Loaning a gun is no different than loaning any other legally owned item.
- You are saying my children are not allowed to use my guns to hunt. (They are old enough to serve in the military).
- I can not borrow a gun from a friend to try before I buy that model.
- My wife can not use/touch my guns.
- etc.
Now if I loan a gun to a known felon or to someone I know to be wanting to use it in an illegal manner - that ALREADY is illegal - why not enforce that law? So you want another law that covers this?
Same goes for selling a gun.
You are also saying that if someone steals you gun, you are liable for them stealing it. So, when someone stole my car, it was my fault because I decided to own it?
Ever go to a gun show? Try and find someone there who is willing to sell you a gun w/o a background check. I'm fine if it would be required by law, but just try it now. (Yes, I've gone to gun shows and asked folks about this. One time I found ONE person who was selling 3 guns that could have been purchased w/o a background check) The media makes it sound like anyone anywhere can buy from anyone anywhere w/o a background check.
"You" wanna buy a gun from someone in a neighboring state - has to go through an FFL. Already a Federal law.
So now for my soap box - enforce current laws!
EX: straw purchasing - the act of buying a gun for someone who can't. It is a Federal crime:

But when someone did that and a police officer was killed - they got probation. They should have been accessory to murder (my opinion).

Sorry for the rant.
