Center console hinge tabs

Has any body got a new One lately, was told mine would be in yesterday. Tomorrow I will call to see what up, Just checking to see if they change the hinge taps or not. I was told they have on the new ones.

My newest one is at the dealer. I just haven't gotten around to making an appointment yet. I'll let you know what it's like.

I will find out tomorrow if the design has changed. My 5 star has new service hours for us working people. 9 AM - Midnight. Tomorrow after work mine gets installed. I was going to pull the console and give it to them to swap lids but it seems like a job to get the drivers side of the console unhooked from the bracket. I will give some silcone spray a try and see if that will help on the new lid.

Call the dealer today, He said the box was in, But the lid was on back order.
You Know what that means.

Went to my 5 star after work today to have the new lid installed and guess what!! They need to order the entire center console. The service writter thought the lid was part of the vertical piece that the tabs broke off of. So all you broken tab diesel owners make sure DC orders the console box. On a positive note the service was great from my 5 Star. Within minutes my truck was in the shop to get the repair done and the body guy had parts order the box when he saw the lid was just the lid. If DC upgraded the console hopefully that is what i will get.

I've been ignoring this topic because I thought that you guys were just abusing your consoles! A quick check on my exterior hinges and all was great. Today, I just happened to see the interior portion, and they are ALL broken off!

Now I'm mad and off to the dealer! #ad

Well I checked mine and yup I have one broken one. I put some White Lithium Grease on the remaining tabs and it seemed to help (you know just a little dab 'll do ya). It did make the lid not stay up as well which seems to be what the tabs are designed to do.

Well you want the good news frist or the bad news?.
Well in case you didn't guess it, The good news, for me anyway was, The lid came in. They install the new console Thursday, The Bad news was the only thing that they change was they added a Sticker to the side of the box, Just in case we didn't all ready know. Not to let a Child ride on top the Lid.
I don't get it, I just don't understand why they just don't change it. It can't be cheeper to just keep replaceing the darn thing. The mechanic said you wouldn't belive how many of these we replaced, Then told me that I would be back.

Just what I wanted to here hu. Well maybe some of the other ones on back order will be different. Let us know if any body gets a different Console.

Thunderball, If the dealer said your lid was in,you will have the samething happen as me. The lid does not have the hinge with the tabs,the box does. As of today there are 165 boxes on national back order. The parts guy shows the vender to release the first 60 boxes Feb 21. Hopefully the box has new upgraded tabs. At least the back order is for a part that we can all live without and not a powertrain item!!!!

OK, all you truck owners check those tabs and maybe if DC has several thousand on back order they just might come up with a fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My console came with the child safety sticker originally. What it should caution is "Opening Console Will Break Hinge. " Somebody didn't have a CAD package when he designed this.

I have never put any kind of load on this thing and yet the tabs are all broken. I quickly looked at the wife's Durango (which has a smaller version), and it uses a metal hinge (what a great idea!). I'm not sure who is picking up the tab for these things (DC or the vender), but I do think that a redesign is in order.

Has anyone had any problems about getting these things fixed under warantee?

Got my box installed today. Looks the same to me. I did spray it with some silicon. We'll see how long this one lasts.

Now I thought that I was darn lucky getting my new replacement center console installed today only two-weeks after initially ordering it. #ad


One slight problem, however!!! #ad


The new console won't open! One thing that I can say for certain, is that the new hinges will never break if you can't open it. At first they thought that it was the sliding lock mechanism (which makes it impossible to open when tilted up), but after putting my old lid back on this theory went out the door. It appears that the new base has a mis-aligned catch pin. So my third one is now on order! Check your open/close feature!

I might add that all the mechanics were extremely impressed with the Mag-Hytec cover--they thought that it was a special 2-speed axle. #ad

Maybe this is the fix we all have been wating for, Not what we expected, But DC ancer to the problem. If they won't open, they can't break, therefor problem fix.
