Center console hinge tabs

I have had mine for 3 weeks. empty console except for a few pens and 6 cds in the holder. And mine is toast. bad design I guess.

You guys had me worried I just went out and looked at my lid... no problemo! I thought for sure after 14 months mine would be broken but they are not. My console is stuffed with all kinds of crap too.

We are talking about the tabs on the inside.
I took out my cd's Thinking this might cause
the problem, will have to see, so far ok.
but I don't open it much anymore.

This was discussed before, so I'll share what I found out today. The console is covered under the 3/36 warranty. I told my dealer today there was no sense in replacing it every few months. I'll just wait awhile before the next one. I'm on my 3rd or 4th one now. He's hoping a new design will come out to solve the problem.

Fireman Dave-
I would say to keep replacing them in order for any hopes of a re-design. Additionally, if you can show how many of these things broke during your warrantee, you might have recourse for a replacement beyond the usual 3 years/36,000 miles. My dealer said that these things cost about $350. 00!

Dave,

I agree with you, but it's a real pain in the rear to keep having to take it in and be without it for a day. I figure the more you let your truck out of your site, the more chances there are for a mishap of some kind. But you're right, the more $ it costs DC, the better chance for a real fix.

I agree with you entirely about leaving the truck with a stranger. I had even inquired about me taking the center console out myself, and just swapping with the new one. The dealer said that all warranty work has to be performed by them. We still have to use up the inventories before there is ever a chance to a new design.

It was interesting to hear about this National backorder??? My dealer had no problem getting one within two weeks. There must be a California wherehouse stocked full of them!

Called the dealer last night about the release date for the console box. Now his computer shows no date, just national backorder and pending orders all accross the country. I am hopeing that maybe the vender is fixing his problem.

I'm waiting awhile to go in for my 4th one. I don't see any point in having the same defective thing replaced by more of the same defective thing over and over. My dealer is hoping a new design will come out, but of course no one knows for sure if that will happen.

X-10: The cup smoothie is a cup holder that attaches to the console for you guys with sticks. You don't have the big cup holder thing that comes out of the dash like us auto guys. Geno's sells them.

After waiting six weeks the new box came in. Dealer will install Tuesday,I will look close for any changes. It might of just been a problem with the plastic used by the vendor, it could now be fixed and you would never tell by looking. This box was not in a wharehouse,it was just released to stock from the vendor.

My 5 star installed the new box and there are no changes that I can see. The mech took an extra turn on the lid hinge spring and now the cover stays up just past the hinge taps. If all the taps break off again the lid should still stay up by the spring. I am pleased with my dealer,it is nice to take a truck in for a 4PM service and they are working on it at 4:10 PM.
