Somehow I missed this post, but two of my four hinges broke with in the first week of ownership. My last Dodge, a'98 2500 gasser, had what appears to be the same console and I had no problems at all with the hinges. Looks like DC gave us all a good #ad
upgrade for 2001.

I have never seen this post before, now i know that my console tabs being broken is actually normal i guess. Oh well, as long as it opens, closes and latches, i am not replacing it YET. Ill wait till i feel like annoying the dealer.

Replaced at 7,000 miles got 14,000 on it now.

Dealer replaced both top and bottom on my truck now it works and I have to say the dealer did good this time. :)

console

The tabs on my hinge broke off soon after I bought the truck,

dealer installed new console base but it wasn't long and the same thing happened again. For all the trouble it's worth for me to go back and forth to the dealer I'll live with it.

The dealer just replaced the lower part on mine today. Two of the tabs broke off this last winter over in McCall, Idaho at -31 deg. Price for the bottome that the dealer paid was $56. oo. Was under warranty. I just passed the one year mark on the 3rd of this month. New one does not squeek at all like the original one did. They do need to come up with a better system though. -Wally- :D

High Quality

After 3 or 4 of them, I've been too lazy to take it back in. I'll get it in there again - before the warranty is up. Right now I'm cruisin' with one or two broken tabs. How much do you think Dodge saved by not putting a good hinge on there in the first place - now that they keep replacing the whole box? I suppose they're still ahead since most people don't want the hassle of taking it in for this.

I've had my center console replaced as well. My wife's Durango has a smaller console and it has metal hinges-what a concept!!! I suggest to keep replacing these things under warrantee and maybe Dodge will finally be forced to come out with a real fix. Maybe a metal hinge?

I had my center console replaced. The tabs on the new box I received has a small reinforcement patch on them. The patch looks similar to a small piece of black electrical tape bonded over the tab area that experiences the stress. Looks cheesy, but so far it is holding.
