From what I've read it doesn't seem to hurt to run a cetane booster in the winter regardless of the fuel. I'm assuming all fuel here is "winterized" but I don't see anything on the pump, so I started using an additive late in the winter.

But then I read a suggestion that it doesn't hurt to use it all year round.

Thoughts?

I'm a new owner of a 97 Dodge CTD and in the past three tanks of diesel I've started running Power Service Cetane booster/injector cleaner. The truck is happier and seems to have a bit more power. I'm sold on it and am going to run it year round. I also run some anti-fungus additive the previous owner gave me, and since it cost him about $1700 to drop the tank and replace various bits after his last bout of fungus in the fuel, I'll be running that stuff every tank.

Been using Power Service white bottle in the winter/Grey bottle in the summer since the truck was new. I also mix 6 ozs MMO{Marvel mystery oil}with 16 ozs PS. I have close to 90K trouble free miles on my 05. Original ijectors lift pump ect. IMHO it makes a difference.

We use a product tested in the TDR a few months ago made by Schaeffer Oil (Schaeffer Oil 3. 0 | Industrial Lubricants | Diesel Fuel Additive | Synthetic Motor Oils)... We've been using it for at least 10 years... . It's expensive and concentrated so a few once's treats 80 gals or so... we use it the year around have have had one gel up on a CAT engine before we started to use this product... .

Canada mandates that all fuel sold there is blended down, not so in the US and that's how we got caught.....

We also run a 10 micron primary filter and a 2 micron secondary filter on all our trucks to prevent problems... only purchase fuel in card locks or truck stops where we can see a filter at EACH pump...

We've never had a problem since we've made the changes mentioned above...

We've never seen a increase in MPG but enjoy the comforting thoughts that we've got the right product protecting our injection systems...

I've been through several fuel classes years ago... and wouldn't think of adding any product that wasn't recommended for a diesel mix, (2 cycle oil, MMO etc. . )

BTW - we only change the filters once a year, seeing 60K miles plus per truck... We're happy...

Anyone know anything about Stanadyne?
They've changed there packaging since my first truck, but I believe I used there Performance Formula.
Upon further inspection, they've changed all of there products because of ULSD.

Excellent info, thanks. This brings up another subject -- the quality of fuel. I'm sure there are posts about that so I'll do a little research. I was told all the fuel is pretty much the same around here, but I'd certainly like to get the best I can.

Almost all fuel is blended and shipped through a common pipe line around the country... On gasoline the local guys (tank farm) would add back to the basic fuel to give it the additives to meet say Shells standard, and other additives to meet Chevron... and the basic gasoline would go into the tankers with the additives..... I can only assume that diesel is the same... .

What I learned in a very extensive fuel class years ago is that diesel will grow bugs (a type of algae) that gasoline will not... . also, diesel will go bad faster with time than gasoline... . and any moisture in diesel will destroy the very tight tolerances used in diesel injectors over gasoline injectors... .

Like I mentioned above, we only buy were we can see the large filter on the pump (8" diameter or so and 18" long) and most of the fuel guys will write the date in the filter with a black marker so you have an idea how long its been there... .

Hello

Have been using Almagated fuel additive for a few years. Ran into this up in Alaska when traveling in the Fairbanks area in December. My friends up there run Dodge, Chev and Fords with great results. This product is cheeper than most, but seems to deliver as good as any for the cost. Look at the site and TDR-WDA, for all around service.

Thanks

JL
